THE McKinlov tariff, which has just been in fon-eone joar, is growing more popular day.

IT is said that Morgan county, tills State, has tho largest sorghum factory in the world, its capacity being 1,000 gallons per day. The building is completed and the machinery in place ready for work.

THE total product of beet and sorghum sugar in the States of California, Kansas and Nebraska and in Utah territory will reach the amount of 27,000,000 [Kiunds. The bounty offered by the government lias stimulated the production of sugar and tho raising of the sugar beet, which appears to be more profitable than sorghum, promises to become valuable industry.

WHEVEVEK a calamity howler tells you of the iniijuitv of the new tariff law in increasing the duties on imported goods, you can shut liitu up every time by challenging him to make out a written list of the retail prices of staple manufactured goods, such as are bought by the farmers and workingmen of this country, and to show, by the prices as compared with those a year and a half ago. that the people pay more for them than they did six months before the now tariff law went into operation. They can't do it, because the fact is that theEe articles are no doarer, aud many, of them are cheaper.

Tin: Indianapolis Sentinel and the Xetcs have queer ideas as to what constitutes a good Democrat. Sim Coy may bo guilty of altering tally sheet papers nnd serve term in the penitentiary for the same offense but the crime is not sufficient to shake his standing in tho Democratic party. He can even retain his seat as a City Councilman during his tin forced absence and is given a re-election on his return. But when he announces that he will not vote a straight Democratic ticket these newspapers proceed to read him out of the Democratic party. A man may be guilty of all the crimes in the calender without effecting his good standing as a Democrat. It is only when ho bolts tl^s ticket that renders him unfit to associate with tho faithful.
