Th« State'* WorM's I'rtlr Itulldiiig. INDIANAPOLIS, I ml., Sept. l.V The dissatisfaction over the acceptance of a Chicago architect's plans for the Indiana world's fair building in preference to those of Indiana architects is growing. Already there aro threats of carrying the matter into the next legislature and asking the appointment of a special investigating committee. The architecture of tho proposed building, as shown by the plans, is classic in style and suggests both the Iiotnan and Nonnau periods. It will be 110 feet long by 70 wide, with one end semicircular in form. Tlie first floor is entirely surrounded by a covered portico, with entablatured roof supported by square columns. The north and south entrances are at the base of tall square towers, tapering at the top. The roof of the main building is high and steep, ami is also covered with tiling. The walls of the second lloor :iie to be of iron and plate-glass. The interior arrangement of the iirst tioor provides for a large hall. IS feet wide, running north and south. On the east side doors open into tlie assembly room, 44x ::i feet in size, one end of which conforms to the rounded form of the building. In the west end a corridor separates a gentlemen's parlor and ante-rooms on the north from similar quarters for ladies on the south. The apartment over the assembly room upstairs is to be devoted to a reading room, while the otli-r end is divided into quarters for the Indiana commissioners and the women's committee.
Against tlie llatiks.
INHIANAI'OI.IS, I ml., Sept. 15.—Attorney General Smith has prepared his argument in the celebrated ea.s-' which will lie heard to-day. The case is one in which bankers were sent to jail (construcdlv) for contempt in refusing to show the tnioks of depositors to the state tax commissioners, and the argument will be on the habeas corpus case for their release. The case will be the most celebrated ever argued in this state, and will determine whether the bankers or the legislature can make laws for the state. The bankers have engaged a number of the most prominent lawyers in tlie state, but tlie attorney general believes that he will win the case, which means that all tax dfxlgers will be routed out of their last hole. ltlg Fire In Indianapolis.
