More About "Long John." The Huntington
llviahl
has the fol
lowing to say concerning John M, Uranvan, the Wabash College boy of that place who disappeared in Washington last .rune: "While it IB true that Mr. Uranyan's parents have no definite information of the young man since June, except their natural solicitude as to his welfare, they are not particularly uneasy regarding him. After I10 left this city last fall, he wont to Tacoma, where he opened a law office. In the spring, however, he abandoned it and rented a small ranch. He remained upon the ranch until the early part of June, when he abruptly left it, leaving no word as to where he had gone. Naturally his disappearance attracted attention, and was tho subject of some newspaper notoriety in tho Washington press. These papers have found their way oast.
Tho last positive information of Mr. Branvan is a lottor written by him in Junoi saying that he had joined a surveying party in chargo of S. D. Wilson, State superintendent of the Department of Irrigation of Washington, nnd was with tho party on tho plains, camping out, and would probably bo with Mr. Wilson for some time. Whether ho has not had opportunity to send letters, or wl other he has neglected to do so from inclination, iB unknown. No nows is us uilly regarded as good news, and his friends hero are disposed to take a hopeful view* of the matter.

BERTHA MAY BHIKEMAH.
Tlic Beauty of tho Bobbins House Claimed by Her Mamma. Everybody has noticed Bertha, the pretty dining room girl at the llobbins House, who is such a favorite with all the boarders and traveling men who put up at the Bobbins. Bertha came here the middle of July and has two or three solid beaux already, one of whom iB particularly zealous. Well, if the story of Bert ha's mother is to !o relied upon and it seems that it should be. Bertha has acted real naughtily. Mrs. Amanda Brinoman lives in Indianapolis and iB an invalid, having spent a greater part, of the spring and summer in Si. Vincent's hospital. She says that Bertha was born in 1871 and has one brother, aged 15, who is learning tho barber's trade in Indianapolis. Mrs. Brinoman secured a divorce from her husband twelve years ago and since that time until last spring labored hard to support and raise her children respectably. When she was obliged to go to the hospital Bertha promised to be a real good girl and tend to her home. She was then employed in the New York store ai §1 a week to bake fancy caki s. I'.eitha, so hor mother says, failed to keep 1 er promise of being good and on the glcrious Fourth went oi.t to the fair grounds at Indianapolis with some bad people and cut up in a very bad manner. This made her very much ashamed and taking her clothes she came to Crawfordsvillo and began to work in tho Bobbins House. Mrs. Brinoman learned her whereabouts and sent for her to come home. As she received 110 answer she came to Crawfordsvillo on August 17.
Uertha was surprised and promised to go. but that night hid herself and her clothes. Tho next morning landlord Jones told her that he could probably tind Bertha if she would promise not to hurt her or tako hor back home. She tinally consented and Bertha was produced in short order. She was at tlrst very impudent but soon broke down and cried. She tried to get Bertha to go back but she wouldn't, so she instructed Jones to send her wages to Indianap olis as Bertha was still a minor ami under hor control. Bertha is employed at $12 a month but Mrs. lirineinan says she has only received SM thus far from
Jones. She placed tho matter in the hands of Attorney Ben F. Davis, of Ln dianapolis, and he placed her in consul tatioii with Hanna A Hanna of this city She demands that Bertha lie s"nt home as she thinks a hotel is not a lit place for her, especially when she can get a bettor place and good home surround ings in Indianapolis, ller old place in the New Y'ork store awaits her and Ber tlia should certainly go. llanna Hanna now have the matter in charge and it is pretty safe to say that inside of two weeks the beauty of the Bobbins House will be back with her ma in In dianapolis, where, indeed, she ought tie to-day.
JAKE'S MENTAL ANGUISH.
He Considers Himself To Have Suffered $1,000 Worth Of That Article.
You can almost shut your eyes and smell Jake Freed's mental anguish which was caused by his being arrested for selling liquor to minors about two weeks ago. There is no doubt about it, your uncle Jake Freed sutTered great mental anguish and he wants pay for it, too. Money is the only balm which will cover up the cracks in hiB shattered reputation and ivounded spirit of self righteousness. Jake, this morning, through his attorneys, llanna ,fc llanna, filed two suits for damages and lie wants §500 in each case. One is against Emmons Busenbark, of Now Market, and the other is against Samuel N. Warbritton, of the same place. The complaints are just alike and in them it is charged that tho defendants willfully, maliciously and without probable cause had tho plainiilT arrested on August 17 for selling liquor to a minor, one Leo Day. They had Fred dragged up fore the milk white shrine of Judge ltamsey and he, not liking tho looks of things was venued to Squire Wright, of Wavoland. He was acquitted with triumph and eclat on the chargo of loading up Mr. Day. Tho enthusiastic cheers of his admiring friends did not satiate his desire for revenge, however, ind he resolved to smite his enemies sore. He says he lost six days' time in tho suit, had to pay extensive attorney's fees and was caused groat mental sulTering ami anguish for which he now wished each of the defendants to pay over to his account S500 ami all proper reliof. Notice will bo served on tho defendants at once and some of their friends think that they will have tho temerity to stand trial. Jako says that his Irish blood is up and that ho will have damages or know tho reason why.
