He left here for Causa* City, Mo., where he was in tin wholesale crockery business. The next heard of him were vague reports that he wius in Chicago. The state prosecutor is making a thorough Investigation of the cu.se.

I',lets About tho (en Supply. I.vniANAroi.is, Ind., Aug. as.—Further I disclosures are made us to the diminution of tho supply of naturai yras in the Indiana field, of the wells that hntl a pressure of :jih) pounds when opened, two and three years ago. some of which were better than any since discovered, twenty-six have been entirely abandoned. The present supply for the city of Indianapolis is obtained from nn almost completely new set of wells, and it in necessary to continually open new ones. Experience has proved, according to the published tlgures, that the average life of a well when drawn upon constantly is about three years, and of some the time Is shorter. In the beginning the supply was obtained ttt a point in the field 20 miles distant from Indianapolis Now It Is necessary to bring the gas distance of nearly 40 miles, and the wells are now within a few miles of the heart of the field. The purpose in disclosing these facts is to enforce economy in the use of the fuel and to secure the inauguration of the meter system instead of permitting consumers to burn all the gus they want for fixed yearly charge. There is great waste in the manufactories.

Most of the new arrivals alleged that they had misunderstood the. condition here, and some declined to go to work and re t-irned to Chicago. The company had four freight locomotives steamed up, but a delegation of strikers appeared and pulled out the lires. Thereupon the company upplled to the sheriff for protection to its property. Sheriff Meliee swore «in twenty deputies, aud they were placed In charge of the roundhouse. The engines were once more steamed up. but no attempt was made to take them out. In the afternoon another conference was had between the committees and General Manager llradbury. The latter renewed his proposition of a willingness to consider the men's grievances whenever they re turned to work, but not before. This vvus declined.
