Tf.uui: 11 .\ til-.. Lud.. Aug. II.-Mr. Crawford l'airlianUs. the rich distiller and capitalist, is perhaps somewhat better, Imt he is still hiccoughing. Thursday was the fourth dav. The attack has been so incessant that he has been unable to take food in nourishing ouantitics or obtain sutlieicnt sleep. I'nltUc other cases, he docs not hiccough in Ills sleep, but the sensation of hiccoughing is just strong enough to arouse him from sleep at very frequent intervals. When the atllictiou is most severe and wearing on him he hiccoughs thirty times a minute. He is a man of remarkably sluing physical condition, but the four davs' siege is beginning to have its elVcct in a way of general exhaustion. The physicians have tried many remedies, the usual tinti-spasmodic prescriptions, and others to remove the ulterior cause ot the hiccoughing. One physician believes it comes from the brain and another from tin- stomach. Mr. Fairbanks has had several attacks of hiccoughing. but none so prolonged as the present one.

a year and a half ago Miss Hattie Singleton of this place lost the use of lier voice. From that time until Wednesday she was unable to speak above a whisper. Some time during the afternoon a young lady friend called upon her and asked if she whs done ironing yet. Turning toward her friend she essayed to whisper a reply and astonished all about the house by speaking the word aloud. Hers has been considered a peculiar ease and the restoration of her voice so unexpectedly has caused much talk among local physicians.
