The alarm of lire was turned in yesterday shortly after noon from box 34. Although the firomon were at dinner tlioy reached the scene of the fire in re markably short time. Tho roof of the house occupied by Mrs. Jnbob Motzger on Morgan street had taken fire from spark and was in llames when tho depart' ment arrived. It was extinguished with loss than $50 loss. Tho worth of the electric firo alarm system becomes more apparent every day ond has already saved enough property obout the city to pay for itself.-

One of tho cribbers who was detected by Supt. Zuck, Saturday, had come to the examination prepared for every emergency. She had evidently heard of Sue Burnoy, for sho had modeled her dress after that of tho sympathetic Susan and instead of samples, carried loaves from tho various text bookB. She had their location down flue and sho kuow right whore to put her hand on the required answer to any question. In one corner sho corriod regular geography and when a number of questions on Asia wero sprung on tho applicant. Sho shyly drew tho mnp of that continent and studied it at her leisure. A number caught on to her little game, but so long as she leKoved herself undotoctod by Mr. Zuok sho was blissfully indifferent.
Boy Blown Up.
A sad accident occurred at Waynetown yesterday. Mrs.Clemons, of Iowa, accompanied by her 10 year old sou, has boen visiting for some time past with her brother John. 1'. Biddle. Yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock Mr. Biddie's little son and his little cousin slipped a quantity of powder out of the house nnd took it down near tho stable to explode. After searching around for suitablo place they Anally poured tho whole lot out on a largo stone. Tho little Clemens boy then going up to tho one took a match and striking it touched off tho powdor. There was pull' of smoke and tho poor lad was ly-
Bi vcriil feet away with his face terrible burned. His eyes must have closed instantly upon the explosion os his sight w.is not destroyed although it is ser iously impaired, but his face was blown full of powdor and literally cooked by tho fire. Tho doctors pronounce tho caBO a serious ono and while it is not likely that the boy will die ho will go through lifo terribly disfigured.

Sad Death of Eev. J. N. Wright. Tho remains of Bev. J. N. \v rigin, who drouned himself in the canal at Indianapolis while suffering from mental derangement, arrived here this morning nt 0:18 o'clock, and after services nt tho M. E. church, wero intered at Oak Hill cemetery.
Drs. Van Anda and Hyde, Methodist misisters of Indianapolis, wero in attendance at the funeral and assisted Bev. G. W. Switzer in conducting the services.
The remains when found Saturday wore in a terrible condition although a gash over the eye was the only mark on tho body. His watch hod stopped at 10:18 showing that it was about that time that ho had jumped into tho canal. 0. W. Wright gives the following version of the affair: "Fnthor was 77 years old and had for many years been a Methodist minister. He was also a Scottish Bite mason, but I do not know towhatlodgo ho belonged There is no doubt that he was crazy to an extent. About. six years ago he went from here to Kentucky, whero ho was born, to
viBit
his brothers and sis
ters. After he had been there a few weeks I received a letter from him in which he seemed to be dissatisfied and out of his mind, nnd ho said that unless he had some home to go to he would go to the bottom of tho rivor. I nt once wrote for hiui to come to mo nnd he did so, remaining with me until about June 1 when he went to Indianapolis. Frequently talked and acted queer and Wednesdny night mother heard him say to himself that he would 'get rid of those people.' He was evidently contemplating suicide then. I think he did tho deed Thursday night at 10:13, the time his watch stopped. Ho hud about S20 when ho left." .....
A Gobbler That Seta.
Mrs. Larkins, who liveB near the place of Honry Walter, north-wost of tho city, has a gobbler that is in the nature of a curiosity. Lost year when Mrs. Lnrkins' turkey hen hatched her brood the gob bier deliberately kidnapped two of the infant turkeys und carrying them into distant pasture proceeded to mould their plastio characters after an idea of his own. In timo, however, the old fellow was discovered and he was re lieved of his chargea. Several weeks ago the turkey hen again started in to set and at once the gobbier proceeded to imitate her. Ho gathered together a collection of potatoes, stones ond corn cobs and assiduously sot to work to hatch out turkoys. Mrs. Larkins tried to break him by tearing up his nest but as often as this was done the old follow industriously made another. Finally Mrs. Larkins decided that it he was bom to set she might as well utilize his whim nnd accordingly put a dozen hen eggs under him. The chicks are duo to-morrow and a great eensation is expected at tho Larkins farm. In order to prevent tho chickens being crushed under his hngh feet, Mrs. Larkin in tends to attach large sponges to them that disaster may not result.
