Ho was gleofully running backward when he enmo to tho deep ditch which had boon dug for the purpose of tapping a water main. Of course he fell in nnd cracked his head,, cutting deep gash three inches long to the skull.

To THE JOURNAL: AS Onwfordsvillo is organizing a band of eighteen pieces which will bo one of tho fineet, wo would expect to make it moro comploto to havo a tall, woll built man for drum major. To suit tho position of drum major we would give tho nnmo of Scot Harris, tho bill poBtor, who suits in heightli and looks. Ho would make A No. 1. Lets havo him for. drum major to our now band. X.
The suggestion is doubtless a good one, but Music Hall will require tho constant presence of Scot to pick rats out of tho flies.
The New Band.
Tho new Crawfordsville band will moot for rehearsal this evening at tho small court room. Tho leader nnd musical director of tho organization is T. Tattam, of Chicago, who for number of years has been identified with some of the greatest bands in Illinois. Mr. Tattam is to remove horo nnd enter tho commission business nnd will be a valuable acquisition to Crawfordsville musical circles. Evorything is moving along smoothly nnd it is pretty certain that Crawfordsville will soon hear music in the air. An open air concort once in a while would not come amiss either.
Death of A. D. Kellison.
A telegram reached Samuel D.Kollison this*'morning from Glasgow, Mont.' to the effect that his son A. D. Kellison, was der.d. He had boen ill for somo time of rheumatism of tho stomach and heart disease. He wns thirty-three years old and leaves wife and two children. Ho lind been in Glasglow just a year last Fourth of July and was coming right to the front in his chosen profession, the lnw. Before leaving here he hnd studied lnw with fy P. H. Proctor nnd servedrfour years as justice of tho poaco of Darlington. His father and mother will,go to the funeral.
The Midland Extension.
It is evident thnt the Midland intends building into Brazil as rapidly as possible, W. M. Wert, of Lafayette, who has charge of tho building of all bridges for the company between Wnvelnnd nnd Brnzil, wns in the city yesterday, and left for Anderson this morning to comploto arrangements. To a Times reporter he stated"Wo begin work noxt Monday morning with a force of thirty-five or forty mon on the Midland bridges between Wnveland nnd Brazil, our first work boing nt Sand Creek. We have instructions to push tho work ns rapidly as possible." "Are you not afraid of getting your pay?" was asked. "No. Tho compnny makes a satisfactory doposit in the bnnk for tho work before wo begin, and I have no fears but that I will be regulary paid."—Brazil Times.

The Racket Between Wm. Buchanan and the Ohio Farmers Ins. Oo. Adjusted. Tho first of the week Tim JOUHNAL made mention of tho difference between the Ohio Farmers Insurance Coiiipany and William Buchanan in regard to the origin of tho fire which destroyed tho houso of Buchanan's mother about four days after it had been insured by tlui ubovo montionod company. The adjuster who came on Saturday evoning after looking over the ground made no bones whatever about telling Buchnnnn that ho had acted as an incendiary and sot fire to the premises for tho purpose of getting the insurance money. Young Buchanan denied this vigorously and stated emphatically that ho could prove an alibi on tho Sunday night in question. Tho adjuster requested him to state whore he had been and Buchnnnn stated at once that ho had been calling upon a Mrs. Hubbard, who resides with the family of Moso Allen several miles from the city. He further said that he had hired a rig to go out and had not loft until 2 o'clock Monday morning. The adjuster took all this down and pro ceeded to investigate. He first called upon Bob Davis and learned that Buchanan had obtained no rig from him on the night in question, although ho said Buchanan had previously been there and tried to make him recall such an event. Mr. Adjuster then took a drive out to the homo of Moses Allen nnd interviewed that gentleman. He said that Buchanan had not been there and usherod the insurance mnn into tho presence of Mrs. Hubbard. Mrs. Hubbard, to whom Buchnnnn claimed to hnvo boon paying his attention whon his mother's houso tool: fire, had no recollection whatever of tho wily William having been around. In fact she was dead' certain he hadn't been nnd subscribed to writton statement to that effect. This wns nuts for tho adjuster nnd ho rolled into town smiling a seraphic smile nnd twirling his thumbs most amiably. It was a squelcher for William, however, and almost scared him into conniptions. The adjuster left town nnd nfter consulting his management returned yesterday. He called on Mrs. Buchanan and compromised the matter with her pnying a small portion other insurance. As to tho insurance of Wm. Buchnnnn it was not paid and will not le. The adjuster stated that ho expected tho grand jury to tako hold of tho mnttcr and roturn an indictment as ho had sufficient evidence to make out a strong raise.
A Merry Time.
Tho Order of tho Eastern Star and friends who picniced yesterday atClark'B Dam, wns the banner picnic pnrty of the season. The weather, the ronds, the fishing nnd nil wero in their fnvor. It would bo useless to attempt to describe the dinner and supper, save to say that the Fly Fishermen, West, Travis, Snodgrass and Smith landed fifty-seven fine bass, which furnished excellent eating for supper. West carried off the honorB as a fisherman. Eating, fishing, swinging, numerous games, wading the creek and speech making were the order of the day. Judge John H. Burford nr.d Gon. M. D. Manson wore the orators. Alox Harper has the thanks of the entire crowd for mnking a special trip on Monday nnd preparing the grounds nnd springs. A lnrgo amount of cako, meats and other eatables being left it was unanimously voted to the Orphnns' Home.
