MAY BE A SUIT.
Thu Injuries of Jolra Biiiford and Walter Schleppy May Lead to a Law Suit, After tho accidental shooting of John Binford nnd Walter Sehlepjiy last Tuesday tiie |uestion arose as to where Walter Schleppy obtained a revolver and cartridges with which the damage was done. Investigation showed that the revolver had been purchased of a young companion who was visiting in the city until recently. Further research developed the fact that the cartridges had been purchased from a young clerk at a well known hardware store. Selileppy himself did not purchase them but got a juvenile relative of tho clerk to do so, explaining to that young man that they intended to hunt birds in Crawford's woods. Yesterday's JOURNAL contained the section of tho law prescribing tho |Knalty inflicted for soiling ammunition to minors, and tho talk to-day is to the effect that suits will soon bo instituted against the proprietor of the hardware store where the goods were purchased.
No positive declaration to this effect has been made as yot,, but tho matter is under serious consideration and it is altogether probable that the matter will lind its way into tho courts and will be pushed vigorously.
"Lend Me a Dime,"
These were the liquid words of sweetness which assailed the ears of everyone who passed the Y. M. C. A. building last evening about dusk. A young gentleman standing in the door-way uttered tliem and then backed up what he asked for by the assertion that for ovory dime loaned ho would return fifty cents this morning. Ho said that he lived out near Judge Snyder and his character for honesty was irreproachable. He wanted tho stuff to engage in little game of draw poker which he said was going on in a Green street saloon. Soveral persons influenced by the promised usury lonned tho hopeful man their dimes. They are probably lost forever for it may be said of this kind of promises as tho immortal Sam Wollor said of "Weal pies especially when made o' kittens," that they are "werry cheap and werrv fill in."
Selling Tobacco to Minors. The following is the section of tho law regulating tho sale of tobacco to minors: "It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to give, barter or sell, either directly or indirectly, to any child or children under the age of sixteen years, any cigars, tobacco or cigarettes, to bo chewed or smoked by said child or children or to give, barter or sell the same to any person whomsoever with knowledge that tho same is to bo chewed or smoked by any child under tho ago aforesaid or to persuade, advise, counsel or compel any child under said ngo to chew or smoke tobacco." The penalty is a fino of not less than SI more more than S10.
Starting Poor,
No ono should marry until ho has enough collateral to start decently in life but they do do it without every day and it has not been many thousand years ago since a yonng man who was married by a 'Squiro hero called the old fellow to one side just before tho ceremony and told him ho could not pay tho fee until the next Saturday. Tho 'Squire acquiesced anil nil went off lovely until just ns tho couple started Jout. The 'Squire then cried as they passed through the door, "Well whattimo Saturday will you bring up my money?" They do say tho young man looked troubled.
Linden Females.
Mrs. Whitocotton, of Linden, is in trouble with ono of her noighbors. Some time ngo sho sold hor sowing machine to a lady friend for 88 with tho privilege of using it a weok on trial. Tho other day tho lady friond brought tho machine back nnd uncerinoniously dumped it over into Mrs. Whitecotton'e yard without so much as "thank you." Mrs. Whitocotton is now suing for tho 88 and Hoed Hannn wont up to-day to represent hor in tho trial which will cost somoono ovory cent of 840.
Will Go To Boston,
Miss Mayme Wilhito has resigned hor position r.s teacher of tho Longviow school which sho has filled so acceptably. Hor ronson for so doing is that sho may spend this winter in Boston ns pupil of tho Boston school of oratory. Misa Wilhito is known as an olocutionist of rare ability nnd her mnny friends hero will bo plonsed to lonrn that she intends to develop her gifts.

IN OLD IRELAND.
0. N. WILLIAMS WEITES ENTERTAININGLY OF THE EMEKALD ISLE.
He Sees the Poverty of the Farmers, Gazes on tho Famous Blarney Stone and Waves the American Flag in the
Tower of Blarney Oastle.
Through tho kindnesB of C. N. Williams we are permitted to publish somo of hiB letters from Europe to his home folks. The first one is from old Ireland nnd is given in full bolow:
Tire: ECCIIIJS HOTEL, GMINOAHUT, Juno 25, '01.—MY DRAK SISTEK.—I am in Ireland nt last and I herewith enclose little genuine Shamrock that 1 gathered mysolf, ulso few leaves from Blarney Cnstlo whore all go nnd kiss tho blnrnoy stone, but myself and Voris did not kiss the stone, guess it was too common.
Wo landed safely nt Quoenstown nt 4 o'clock last Wednesday morning. A boat came out from QuoonKtown nnd took off ovor 500 pnssengors thnt wanted to go by Quoenstown, nnd tho big steamer "Majestic" then proceeded on to Liverpool which is about 12 hours run. Wo had expected to land nt Quoenstown about midnight nnd so no ono wont to bed. We spent two hours walking about Queenstown, but as its a small plnco of about 4,000 and so early iu tho morning wo did not BOO much for tho shops (as they call tho stores over hero) nro only open from 8 a. m., to p. m. We took tho 6:15 train for Cork which wo find iB city of over 70,000 and seems to have ns much pnsh as any city of its size in America, nnd ono would never suspect any suffering in or near such a city as this, more so than in the StatoB. But as soon ns you visit tho country then you begin' to seo how awfully poor tho pooplo are nnd how they live, for tho landlords take all they raise for ront, ground renting from three pounds (nbout 815) to ten nnd twelve pounds, according to the gronnd, for most of the land through which wo hnvo passed is very poor and hilly, nnd owned by landlords in largo blocks. After breakfast in Cork we, with two other gentlemen took a jaunting car to tho famous Blnrnoy Castle, which wn6 built in the sixteenth century. Its walls are from three to five foot thick and is 150 feet high, and is filled with dungeon prison colls, and subterfuge passages used in tho family wars at thnt timo. It is now tho property of Sir George Cottrum who owns several thousnnd ncres of land adjoining. Tho drive out there is beautiful and the road ib ns smooth nnd hard as tho lloor. In fact, nil tho roads in Ireland so far as I have gono nre smooth, hard rond made of pounded stone. Returning from Blarney we came in by tho river Leo, which is a lovoly drivo nlong tho rivor bank. Aftor returning to tho city wo went to the Saint Ann church. It is a poor protostant church, bnt the one that contains the world renowned Chimo Bolls of Shannon, about which Fnthor Prout wrote tho poom entitled ThoBells of Shannon. Ho died in Frnnco but his body was brought back and buried in tho church yard. Wo wont up and saw tho bolls nnd then had tho young lady play on them. 'While in this old church we attended tho baptizing of child from tho old font that stood in tho old church. Tho font was made in 1629. While tho church is very old the chimes still rotnin nil thoir sweet tones. There nro eight bolls and nfter playing a number of familiar pieces tho young lady began on "Home, Swoet Home," and I waved tho American silk flng which sister llattio gave mo before 1 left homo and which I would not soil for 8500 nt the present time. It was a touching scene nnd Rev. Dr. Murphy, of l'lninfiold, New Jersey, who was with us, found a groat huge tear on bis cheek and Voris, well ns tho small boy would sny, was not saying word. After tbis wo visited sovornl chnrche6 and places of interest nnd wo nro off for further pleasure.
