State Dental Inspector.
Tlioodore McMechan has boon appointed a member of the State Dental Board whose duties are to oxamine the fitness of those desiring to practice dentistry in Indiana. The appointment lasts for two yeara and the ollico is one of much responsibility.
Hooked His Flags.
Last evening Charley Davis had just made up a large bundle of flagH and bunting in the Sheriff's oflice and was proparing to start homo to decorate his residence when ho was called out a moment by some of the court house jokers. When ho returned the flags had disappeared and could not bo found. The Treasurer's ollico is under the gloom of suspicion. vi
They Kept the Cows in the Kitchen. The ladies of the Baptist church who are running the dining room in the Stone Front room are nothing if not practical. Instead of going home to milk the cows and then carrying the milk to their dining room thfty simply back the cows' up to the rear of the Stone front and there do the milking. It's a groat scheme and worthy the mind of a genius.
Somewhat Romantic.
Tho marriage of Clayton Snyder and Miss Daisy Britton Wednesday evening was not without its tinge of romance. The young lady's parents while perfectly willing that Bhe should wed were nut apprised of tho marriage at all and merely supposed that sho was going oftt to some social gathering when Mr. Snyder called for her and conducted her to their now homo on east Main street. There tlioy wore married nnd the old folks know nothing of it until- tho noxt morning.
The Waveland Public Softools. Tho third annual report of tho Waveland public schools jp a pamphlet of thirty-live pages just issued. It elioWB that tho schools have had a steady and generous growth under .the management of Superintendent Evans and that the prospects for the future are good. The attendance has grown from 110 in 1887 to 186 in 1891, making necessary tho employment of two more teachers. A new feature of the schools is a savings bank where the pupils are encouraged to deposit their earnings thus promoting habits of thrift and economy.
The Davis-Barnes Embroglio. Isaac Davis gives his version with his trouble with Dr. Barnes aB follows: "I was in the country yesterday, and on my return home I found an unsigned note asking me to call at the Bobbins House. I went to the hotel about noon or a little after and found there my mother and my sister Jemima, who had called to consult Dr. Barnes in regard to a cancerous growth on hor face. I asked the Doctor his method of treatment and his price. He said something about using a plaster and that his price would be $500. I then asked him if he would guarantee a cure for this sum. He said no. I stepped out to consult Isaac M. Davis, my nephew, and was gone about ten minntes. When I returned to the Doctor's room he was in the act of placing a plaster on my mother's face. I forbade him to go any further in the operation. Then ensued a war of words between the Doctor and myself. I had learned that while I was gone mother had signed a note for SGOO payable in thirty days bearing 8 per cont. interest after maturity. She had signed the note by making her mark which was witnessed by some person in the room. I denounced him as a fraud and a scoundrel. He ordered me to leavo the room which I refused to do at the time. I took mother and my sister away and then went to J'. D. White and employed him as my attorney to procure tho note, which he has done. It is now deposited in tho First National
Bank where I can lay my hands on it when necessary." The above in brief is Mr. Davis' statement of the unfortunate affair.

Large crowds came swarming oown town last evening after supper to witness tho evening's entertainment. The first feature was the balloon ascension and parachute leap by Prof. Peacock. The ascent was made from north Washington street and was a great success. Tho parachute leap was made when tho balloon was about over tho reservoir of the city water works and Mr. Peacock landed safely in Hutton's woods.
Tho exhibition run of tho fire department was quite successful, water being thrown on tho control school builuing in one minute and a half.
At 8 o'clock occurred tho foot race betwoen moinbers of tho fire department. All the entries except Dan Pickett, John Bell and Frank -MoNeeley had dropped out, and these gentlemen skimmed over two blocks of Qreen street in a manner indicative of emulation. Pickett came out winnif, withBell 8 close se ond and MoNeeley a close third. After the race the large-crowd on the streets surged around for an hour or so enjoying the pyrotechnics and sodawater.
TO-MORROW'S PROGRAM.

NOTES.
The new uniforms of Company I arrived yesterday and the boys will make their first appearance in them to-mor-row in the prize drill. The uniforms were 45 in number and were given aB a mark of respect for the best inspection in the prize drill.
Among the features of the Fourth of July celebration at Crawfordsville is a prize band concert for a purse of 8150 to the best band organization. The Shelbyville band is entered and will make a strong effort to secure tho prize. Its members are excellent musicians and it is regarded BB one of the best, if not the best bands in the State. Prof. J. S. Bergen, their old leader, will be with them at the contest.—Lafayette Courier.
The band tournament this evening will be the feature of the Fourth. The small admittance feo which will be charged at the gate ie only reasonable and just. These bands cost the committee over $700 and most of the money subscribed has gone already into other channels. If the tournament does not pay them out the committee will be away in the hole. Private Opinion Made Public. I. F. Wade:—My first Fourth of July in this town was in 1882. The town was small then and inhabitants few, but the few were full of patriotism, and the celebration was done up in good style. Cannon firing called the people together in the morning. About 10 o'clock the procession was formed on Main Btreet in front of the Eagle Tavern, with Chilion Johnson for grand marshal, Bev.Samuel Brinton as chaplain, H.B.Milroy to read the declaration, M. D. Baird, orator and Johnnie Fisher with his band of music, marched to Methodist meeting
where each one performed the duty as signed to him and to the satisfaction of all.' Then we reformed and marched back where John Mack and his good wife of the Eagle served a sumptuous dinner to seventy-five or moio of us,and and we ate and drank toasts and wore merry. In tho evening, too, our host of the Eagle preparod us a dinner for the young folks and the lads and lasses all came together and had a good time. After the more sturdy and pious portion ot the company hnd retired we of tho giddy turn of mind called in some stringed instruments and "capered nini bly to the inspiring music of three fid dies" in the upper chamber, in short wo danced all night till most daylight, then went home with the gals in tho morning. And now, after nearly sixty years, sonii of us are here yet, and I havo arranged with the Baptist sisters, who are serving a Fourth dinner in tho Crawford stone front to serve dinner at my expense for all who ate dinner or stopper at our public table on that Fourth of July, 1832.

Beware of Ointments t'or Catarrh That Contain Mercury as mercury will surely destroy the sense of smell "and completely derange the whole system when entering it through the mucous surfaces. Such articles should never be used except on prescriptions from reputable physicians, aB the damage they will do is tenfold to the good you can possibly derive from them, Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cherey & Co., Toledo, O., contains no mercury, and is taken internally, and acts directly upon the blood and mucous surfaces of tho system.
