A Glorious Harvest.
The farmers are now engaged in harvesting the heaviest crop of wheat that the county over produced. It stands so thick in some fields that it is impossible to run the self-binders, and to save it the old fashioned cradlo must bo rescrt ed to. This is indeed a glorious liar, vest.
Have Skipped the Town.
Littlo Dick lliatt a small colored boy and a companion who sails under the aesthetic appellation of "Bull" have skipped tho town. They were detected by the police in climbing on moving trains Inst week and when chased lied the town and have not reappeared. Their paronts are much worried and fear that the boys may havtf .jumped into the surging waters of Sugar Greek to avoid tho ignominy of arrest. Other peoplo do not exactly concur in their opinion.
Broke the Binder and Lost the Babbit. Perry Sanders enmo into town from near Wliitesvillo Saturday aftornoon in no very pleasant frame of mind. His self binder was seriously broken and consequently his harvesting WUB dolayed. It happened this way. His sons wore running the binder when their wandering oyes caught sight of some rabbits. Instantly the horses wore stopped and all took, a vacation to hunt rabbits. The dogs got after the game too and merry time everyone was having until tho rabbbits took a notion to run past the horses. Of course tho entire procession followed and the noise so frightened tho team that they ran away overturning tho binder and making a wreck of it. Wt at made tho wholo matter worse tho boys failed to catch the rabbits.

"Malaelii Bill" Scott wants damages. About a month ago he was incarcerated in the county jail and while there had his hand badly mashed in tho rotany which ho was assisting to turn. Tho njury did not incouvenienco the gentle man much at the time and ho resumed his position on the stone pile the next morning as usual. Now, perhaps, it not generally known, but it is, nevertheless, a fact, that '-Mulachi's" blood is not in a 6tato of absolute purity. To tell the truth it might bo a good denl purer. Hence the slight injury has become a great one. A small bono was mushed and the impure blood settling nround it has placed tho hand of tho young man in jeopardy. The Police Make a Raid on Eutton's Woods and Oause Great Consternation. Saturday's JouitN.u, recounted how the wonderful growth of poetry and pugilism in the Hoosier Athens was being transcended in these latter days by the classic game of "craps," and slightly hinted that there would be a go-as-you-please "crap" tournament in Hutton's wood yesterday afternoon.
Brightly shone the Sabbath sun and merrily twittered the forest birds and to be far from the maddening crowd and haunts of men seemed the desiro of several of our eminent citizens. The hour of noon had scarce rolled by when out of their lairs stepped Bill liaub, Bud Deriekson, George Brown, Lew Minor and forty other hard heeled candidates for tho Church Triumphant and to tho tho propitious day exclaiming, "Hail holy light, offspring of heaven lirst Ixirn," thoy started off with hearts full of religious gratitude and praise forHutton's wood. As they noarod the sacrificial altars and heard the the merry jingle of the "bones" and the melodious croonings of'coine seben-lobon," they uttered whoops of religious enthusiasm and started for the rendezvous at a gait which would have done credit to tho out of town girl at a high school hop. Those collected thero wore not all from "Africa's sunny sands" by a long shot.
Thero were lots of "poor white trash," several clerks und a fair sprinkling of commercial travelers on the ground participating in tho worship of King Craps. Everything was going on as merrily as one of Amelia Hives' novels when suddenly there was a cry of "The Philistines are upon us," and the startled "crap shooters" looking up beheld afar off the glittering regalia of officers Ensininger and Grimes who were coming down like wolves on tho fold, their cohorts all gleaming in silver and gold. They swooped down and smote the shooters soro, scattering their hosts from Dan to
Beerslieba which is over against the Black Hills. One George, a mighty man of valor, bono bearer to Bill liaub and a captain of the host tied even unto tho going down or tho sun when he c.imo into tho land of Alamo lunl the region round about, wlion he lifted up his voice and wept insomuch that a husbandman brought him unto his father in a hay wagon. Tho police did not succeed in effecting a capture but broke up an exciting game and kept considerable money from changing hands. A groat old game of draw poker was going 011
in the north-east corner of tho wood and this was also disturbed.

The "merry-go-round" at the foot of Water street was the scene of a sanguinary struggle Saturday niglit. Two accomplished young ladies, Misses Watkins and Tonoy, had a slight misunderstanding. Miss Watkins doubled up her pretty fist, a la Friday Clark, and gave Miss Toney a smash on her handsome Grecian nose which promptly sent her to grass. She responded before the call of time however, and fastened her fairy fingers in the bright ambrosial locks of Miss Watkins. Miss Watkins reciprocated and both young ladies fell to tho ground clawing and biting like young wild oats. Tho crowd of men and boys cheered vociferously nnd betting ran high. Suddenly there was a hoarse roar of rage heard in tho roar and a confused heap of men were thrown in tho dust as a largo woman armed with a large horn whip came rushing through tho crowd of spectators. She did not pause to parley, but with a whoop of exultation brought the gad down over the dimpled shoulders of the fair combatants. It was maunna Watkins and the way she swung the lash was a caution to sinners. Tho pretty scrap was readily broken up and tho disgusted witnesses brushed the dust olT their clothes and retired to tho beer saloon to discuss tho scientific points of the contest. —Eastlack & McKoou handle the lead ng bicycles. tf.

He was on his way from Illinois to Cloverdale. —Word cams to town this morning that a man had been arrested at Wingate, Montgomery county, with a horse in his possession that he had stolon in Clinton county.—Frankfort Crnscent. —Tho Smartsburg Good Template will picnic in Smith's grove on Sunday, .Tilly 11. •—Theodore Spillman, a thirteen-year-old youngster of tho south end sat down on a scythe Saturday evening and it took several stitches to make him perfect again. This is a little worse than the traditional pin. —Company M.,of Indianapolis, which takes part in tho competitive drill here Saturday is composed entirely of colored boys. It is not a cavalry regiment but it is hinted that some of tho boys will bring their "horses."
