IT takes $25 in the currency of the Argentine Republic to buy a pair of shoes. That is the kind of a republic for a tliinl party.
"THE best markets for farm product are not to be found among agricultural, but among manufacturing, mining and mercantile communities," declares the Hon. Roger Q. Mills, of Texas. Pre cisolv Mr. Mills, precisely. That is just what protectionists from Washington and Jefferson to Harrison. Blaine and McKinley have always contended. We are glad to see that even I'.ourbon freetraders are beginning to acknowledge the wisdom of diverrified home industry
Tin: battle of Gettysburg has been the .theme of a great anrtmnt of discussion by military men and others, for many years, and it dues not seem to be exhausted by any means. In the June number of the Amcriv'in licvicir Major-General John Gibbon comes to the defense of General Meade against some criticisms of his management of the battle, and he certainly makes a good showing for the commanding General,
ALUKAHY wool statistics show decidedly tho good effects of the McKinley bill. Tho purchases of American wool by the New England manufacturers are fully one-half larger than last year, which means, not only that much of an increase in the market the produce of our farms, but a like increase in the amount of American labor, employed in the manufacture of woolen goods, in the amount of money retained in the coun try and in the purchases of the food products of our farms. The value of woolen inijtorts for Deeemlier was only 82,097,711, to §3,981,909 for the same month of the previous year.
HON. KOUEIIT B. I'OHTER, in a recent address to the Hepublican editors of Ohio, made these telling references to the practical results of the "doctrines of cheapness: ''J.-
I have traveled all through the industrial rogions of Euro]*?, and have seen with my own eyes this pinching want among the industrial classes. I have seen women barefooted in the brick yards of merry England carrying cold slabs of damp clay. I have seen them filling the coke ovens of sunny France. I have seen them emerge from the coal pits of busy Belgium. I have looked on in pity and nmazement at woman bearing the brunt of the heat and toil in the harvest fields of the German fatherland. I have watched with Borrow and indignation women hitched up in Anstrollungary with dogs dragging trucks and hauling burdens. Sunburnt and bent with rnpes fiver their shoulders, I have seen woni'-n tmdging along the "banks of the canals and dikes of picturesque Holland, dragging lwats along the turbid waters. And, as if to cap the climax of cheapness and degradation, I have seeu women, dressed as men, mixing mortar and carrying brick up the scaffolding to the brick layers in the charming city Stockholm, Sweden.
Having seen all this, knowing all this, I ask if anyone can seriously conside this state of things and yet repose in absolute satisfaction and confidence, as some of our statesmen do, in tho doctrine of cheapness.
THE Enijuirerx Washington correspondent, W. C. MacBride, has had long interview with Senator Voorhees which npjx'ars in that paper. Tho Indiana Senator roasts Cleveland to a nnt b:own and ile pairs of winning in 1892 Cleveland is nidiiinate'l. He further thinks that "^Ir." Cleveland ouglit not to nominated, because lie is not in fejoni with the financial policy of the Demoera ic j»arly. He is n'it ont'tli (11 the gratitude of the Southern jeoj)le,lwcaiise in the hour of their direst ]eril he was more than direleet. I think (ho Demwrats of this land should have tho opjortiinity in some way to thank the Democracy of Kentucky, who in recent convention adopted a genuine Democratic platform regardless of Mr. Cleveland's views as expressed in liis silver letter. The Domocraey of Kentucky did not deviate from the Democratic creed to ploase any aspirant, but planted
its foot oil good solid soil ground and for the doing of which it is entitled to the thnnks of every patriotic Democrat.' "How about President Harrison in Iudiimn?" the Senator was nsketl, and replied: "lie is gniuing ground, I think. Harrison develops well. Take the speeches he made on his recent trip and they are the most remarkable as a series over uttered l»y a public man. All of them are in the line of instruction, judicious from a party stand-point and yet without tautology or fulsome llattery."
NOT including the railroad appraisement which has not yet been made the total valuation of ]Krsonnl and real property in this county amounts to S20.23fi"s97 against 815,802.019 last year, an increase of S4.371.248.

In ISsO her parents removed to Denver, where she completed her school education, and at a very early age gained fame as an elocutionist Being attractive in person as well as melodious in voice, she makes the reading of the ordinarily dry journal seem lifco the rendition of a poem.
