The Suocesa of the Celebration in Orawfordsville is Assured. Tho committees appointed to arrange' for the Fourth of July celebration mot in the Mayor's office las! evening and discussed the affair. It was found that S818 had beon already subscrilK'd and the soliciting committee believed that over SI,000 coulil be raised. This insures the success of the affair nnd the features of tho celebration were discussed. It was thought that the fireman's tourna. inent would cost about $500, and the band tournament about 8300. Both these features are being thoroughly worked up and are already sure of success. Tho band tournament will occur on tho evening of tho third, nnd tho bauds contesting arc expected to remain over until the afternoon of tho Fourth in order to take part in the grand industrial parade on tho morning of tho Fourth. This parade will !o one of the best features of the celebration, for besides tho private exhibits, there will bo a half dozen unique nnd beautiful floats built expressly for that purpose, and the dozen or so bands taking part. It will be the best thing of the kind overseen in Crawfordsville or this part of the state. It has been suggested that each of the county towns also be represented by a decorated wagon and a prize offered by that ono making the best display. This would lend additional interest and beauty to the parade. On the afternoon of tho Fourth will occur the military drill, and tour companies have already entered, more being expected. The entertainment for tho evening of thoFonrtli has not yot been arranged but will be soon. Tho committees meet again upon next Friday evening to complete the arrangements.
A Lively Runaway.
Yesterday afternoon between four and five o'clock the horse of John Corliii was being harnessed to a buckboard in front of tho blacksmith shop opposite tho Robbins house. The horse in some way became frightened and started off at full run diagonally across the street. Tho buggies of a Mr. Williams and David Harter were standing hitched in front of the meat "shop of Kramer and both were completely upset by the runaway. Fortunately there was no one in either buggy and as both the horses wero old thoy were easily secured. The runaway then dashed up tho gutter toward the west when the buggy of Mrs. C. R. Snodgrass was standing with several ladies in it. Tt looked as though a collision was inevitablo but just before reaching the buggy tho horso turned in on tho sido walk, us though to enter •Tim Midony's clothing store. As the wheels of the dragging buckboard struck the stone curbing tho vehicle was torn loose, and the horse being freed turned again into tho street nnd went tearing up Main street until stopping on the court house corner. Tho only wonder is that some olio was not killed as a more terrible sight than that runaway has not been Witnessed on Main street for many a day.
A Lively Game.
Tho Wabash toajn was defeated by tho University of Illinois by score of 1-1 to 10. The game was a lively one und until the last inning Wabash had it when several errors allowed their opponents to pile up five runs. At the beginning of the seventh inning the score was 0 to 1 in favor of Wabash. Tho game was a most exciting one uud wns witnessed by several thousand people who filled the new park to overflowing. It was field day at tho University of Illinois and the ball gaino was the lust thing on an excellent- programme. If tho regular Wabaeh team had been on she would probably liavo won tho game, but tho rank errors of tho now recruits caused the defeat. Tho crowd had tho audacity to call Runt MoQnown, the handsome Baldwin prizo essayist, a coal miner until ho made several very bad plays, when they changed their minds and came to the conclusion that he was a prep.
The Glee Club at Danville. Tho Glee Club returned from Danville last night and report a very pleasant and profitable time. Tho church was packed, oven tho aisles being filled with chairs and the performers had to respond to soveral encores. Tho club will probably make its next appearance ut Wavoland.
