Since their arrival they have been constant visitors to Wilson's cell in the county jail and seemed to be almost heartbroken over his conviction for horse stealing. The daughter. a rather pretty girl, has been corresponding with a man in Chicago named William liady. Recently that individual arrived in this city. Saturday morning the mother and daughter visited the jail as usual and after they had spent some time there tho girl left, explaining to her mother that she was going to take a walk with a girl friend. That was tho last time Mrs. Wilson saw her daughter, and when becoming alarmed at her long absence, she made Inquiries its to her whereabouts, she found that the girl hail eloped with

May Not Lay tho Pipe*.

Wabash, Ind., April 2S.—Persons interested in the Standard C'il Company who a month ago organized a company to lay an oil-pipe line from Lima. O., to Chicago, have been notified by the Erie railroad management operating the Chicago & Erie road that they will not be permitted to parallel the present pipe line laid in the Chicago .t Erie right of way. The reason assigned is that the oil escaping from leaks endangers the company's property, and is so offensive to the nostrils of the traveling public that the traveling business is injured. The pipe-line company is now securing the right of way from the farmers along the line, paying from twenty-five cents to one dollar a rod. The new line, which will be completed In August, will run just outside the railway lands. The railroad company's action entails great additional expense upon the pipe-line people.

Queer Find at Huntington.

Huntington, Ind., April 2S.—Saturday while some workmen were cutting down the lot of D. A. Purvianee. in this city, to a proper level, and when about 0 feet below the nutural surface of the earth, some rude masonry was discovered. The structure formed a vault about 0 feet iu diameter and 8 feet high. The stones composing the structure were of the limestone variety and were of a kind never found in this vicinity unless they have been brought here. What tho vault had been intended for is a mystery, as nothing was found within It. The structure is supposed to have been the work of the mound builders.

Driven Mail by Lightning.

Coi.pmih's, Ind., April BS.—In June last a number of laborers were in an outbuilding awaiting for a heavy electrical storm to pass by. Into the building ran an abandoned telephone wire. Among the persons in the building was George B. Herron, who was standing near the wire when it was struck by lightning. He received a shock, from the effects of which he was prostrated for several months. Atrophy of the flesh upon his legs and left arm followed, and Saturday his reason gave way.

Fire At Evaniivllle.

Evansvim.e, hid.. April 2S.—The excelsior and sliuck works of Thomas W. Murray, tegether with a large amount of stock, also an old ice house owned by the P. W. Cook brewing Compnny, a portion of the latter building being occupied by an old man as a residence, were totally destroyed by lire. Mr. Murray's loss is estimated at nearly 87,000, no insurance, and the Cook Brewing Company's loss at £1,500, with a small insurance.

Ind., April 2S. -Saturday

evening Grant Phinney, with other young men. was fishing along White river, when l'hinney found a small bottle, which ha shook, causing an explosion that shattered the young man's right hand and badly cut his face with flying glass. Many think the boys were using nitroglycerine to kill fish and the too careless handling of the explosive caused the accident.

Df.M'HI, Ind., April 28.—John S. Case, Hr., an old and honored citizen of this county, died .Sunday, aged 8a years. He had a wide acquaintance iu this and adjoining states.

At a meeting of iia- Asiatic Society of Bengal, at Calcutta, a piece of cable was exhibited, showing that the India rubber covering had been pierced by a blade of grass. The piercing was' so complete and the contact with the copper core so perfect that "dead earth." os it is technically called, was produced and the efficiency of the cablo destroyed. The species of the grass, owing to its dricd-up condition, could not be determined.
