M. Travis took his corps of ofiioe ladies out for a bob sled ride this moruing. —Verd Galey smiles aouuning smile. A seven pound little lady has just arrived at his house. —"Billy" the veteran horso of J. W. Ramsey has yielded up the ghost, another old land mark gone.
Quite a large number in this city expect to witness one of the performance of Sarah Bern'iart at Indianapolis. —If the creek had not been on a rampage for the last two weeks there would bo a tine body of ioe upon the dam to-day. —There were several drunks before the Mayor to-day. They evidently thought from the t-now that it was Christmas time and loaded up nceord ingly. —The Eleventh Distriot of the Christian ohurch is holding its sessions at Ladoga and will continue over tomorrow. A number from this city attended. —Rev. H. M. ATiddleton received a telegram to-day announcing the death of Darwin H. Baker, a leading citizen of South Bend, who has numerous acquaintances in this city. —A large delegation went to Rockville this morning under the chaperonage of Marshal Ensminger to testify in the Ring oase. Moffett represents the Sta'o and Whittington the defense. —Swank & Clark will shortly move into the large and elegant room lately vaoated by Tannenbaum B-others, who are getting thoroughly settled in their double room further do-sn Main streets —Rev. Otis A. Smith went to Crawfordsville this morning to be absent until Friday. Rev, Smith will preach his farewell sermon to the Frankfort congregation next Sunday.—Frankfort NOWB. —Henry Dickerson who was released fiom the county jail yesterday is in again. He got drunk lost night and was accordingly caged again. The com pany there seems to bo congouial for the cheerful Henry. —Lillian Lewis' company, which wis in a skte of levolt the night it was here, a polioemau's services behind the scenes being one of the incidents, went on a strike last Thursday and she was obliged to abandon the road. Non payment of the salaries was.the cause of the trouble.—Terre Haute Express. —We are glad to oommend what has been done by Rev. H. C. Hovey, as a geologist and explorer,not only beoause the results are worthy of attention in themselves, but as illustrating the success whioh a busy pastor may obtain in carryicg on special studies contemporaneously with his regular parish work.—Boston Confregationalist.

Transferred to Another CourtAt Chicago, yesterday, Judge Collins of the Supreme Court, transferred the suit of W. S. Alley, for a receiver of the Louisvill", New Albany & Chicago railroad company, to Judge Tuley, of the circuit court, on the representation that the case properly belonged to the latter judge, as a mistake had been made. 'NY hen the case came up before Judge Collins, last week, the court set aside a reference made by Judge Tuley to a master in chancery, the court say ing thut the defendants should first be allowed to file an answer. This has been done and the motion for a reference will be renewed before Judge Tu ley.
A Delinquent Committee-
Senator Mount, on Jau. 22, introduo ed a bill to prohibit the printing and selling of impure and obscene literature ..nd the next day another bill providing for the distribution of the State school revenue on the basis jf attendance. He lias introduced numerous petitions and memorials from different parts of the States asking the passage of these bills, but six weeks have elapsed and no report has been made. Yesterday the Senator offered a preamble and resolutions instructing the committee to report this morning at 9 o'clock. The resolution was adopted.—Indianapolis Journal.

It is currently reported that a Senior gave the names of the defacers of Yandes Hall to the faculty and secured the $50 reward. Students would Lkj to know his name if it is a fact.
A writer in the Wabash is entirely error in stating that the students want a Monday holiday instead of Saturday. It is diffioult to find a student who is not satisfied with the present order of t.iii.g8.
Au Unlucky Horseshoe.
This noon as .little Zack Mahorney, the son of Alex Mahorney was trudging gaily homeward through the snow in tho sportive innocence of youth he throw a snow ball at. Jim Morgan, the Park House drayman. It happened to strike the savage fellow who instantly turned and reoklessly hurled a horseshoe at the child. It struok him just back of the ear knocking him to the ground unoonscious. Blood poured copiously and muny who witnessed the ict at first thought the child was killed but he soon rallied and was taken to his home on College street on a sled. While badly hurt his injuries are not dangerous. Morgan waB arrested but as Mr. Mahorney refused to prosecute he was released and w,U probably go scot-free.

Yoant who has charge of the work thsre: "I noticed in last week's Journal that the West LPFayette minister would soon marry a lady at Crawfordsville. Wonder why our M. E. minister does not follow his example and go there and get a wife. We have a cosy parsonage on this work that is empty."
A Reported Strike.
There was considerable comment on the street this afternoon in regard to what was reported to be a strike at the Alfrey heading factory. WLdu seen the officials were greatly st rprised and stated that a strike had never even been contemplated. There are me. ely come repairs being made and this probably led to the groundless rumor.
Investigating the Dan.
Secretary Metcolf, of the State Board of Health, is in the city to-day and together withDoctors Keegan and Rankin is spending the afternoon rt tho water works dam investigating hygienic conditions. The oounty aud city health officers are in favor of tearing it out and wish the State health officer to conour in their opinion.

Frank Millet, the celebrated painter, was of course an unknown
artist struggling for that recognition which the critics are so slow to
give e\en io genius. But besides a talent for mixing colors young
Millet had an advertising instinct and it was this which brought
him succers. He painted a picture of a lady in black sitting on a
red sofa, with a yellow back ground. The effect startled his friend*
but more than his announcement that he wculd take it to the
hibition. To the exhibition it went and the critics simply exhausted
the English language in abusing it. Hut Millet's point was gained.
