The vnuuy man at first attempted to r. 'out in uu instant thought better of it and re" spoudod with a frighted "Yes sir." All the rest of the boys stopped, o, and Prof. AioL-.iin who was some !'.-taiiue oil'took iu the entire scene, lie could I not believe the pistols were nnythiU" more than toys and con-iidero.i the affair joke until as-ure by several studauts that ISrortks was iu no jokiug mood and meant business. Oubler having givcu up, LUe.tks engaged him earnest conversation for titteeu minutes, and they parted seemingly the best of i'rie The all'aisoon spread and tho most sensational stories wore toon afloat. Humor.- ai kinds against Gubler were common, but when asked to explain the matter he refused, saying that it was oulv a little trouble of a private nature between himself and Breaks, which had amicably settled. .. "Of course I was a little frightened a, tirst," ho said, "but one thing 1 am sure of, he woulu not have acted as he did he had been well. As for the rtuuors, I am satisfied to know that I have doucuothing to be ashamed of, aiul other folks can think what they please." It is a fact that Breaks has btou very ill for months. He did not get down town until noon to duy and was very much surprised to learn whit an excitement he had created, lie was told what serious rumors and immediately saw die necessity of letting the public know the whole story. Rut he would not do so without Gubler's consent so tho young man was hunted up. He was found at his room on the corner of Pium and Jell'erson and very reluctantly consented to let Breaks explain. The trouble was over some school books which ll'.oy had exchanged last year whoa Gubler roomed with Mr. Breaks. As the latter says, "We were both quiok tempered and became very angry over the afl'air which really did not amount to anything at all. Wo are now the best of friends and I am anxious that the affair should be quieted as soon as possible especially as my wife who thought so much of him, is now very sick and I don't want her to hear about it."
