An Imprudent Peddler-
A fakir who peddled an inferior comb from door to door yesterday introduoei a new method of hawking wares' to Crawfordsville. It was his plain endeavor to terrify ladies into purchasing his goods. So demonstrative did be become at tho home ot Miss Mary Wishard on east Wabash avenue that the lady in terror slammed the door aud looked it in his face. Then lollowed a volley of curses in broken English which it is safe to Bay Miss Wishard has never heard equalled. The old rascal proceeding with his pack a few doors further ou and stopped at the house of Judge Thomus. He hoot mo violent at once and seiziug old Judge Thomas' mother by tho wrist he forced lic-r to purohase the articles against her will. Numerous other complaints are made of the wretali aud he Renins to have terrorized most of tie ladies in tho east end. He badly needs a term ou the stone pile.
Egged Out of Town.
Harris' wonderful spectacular show inclndiug the ten artists and great mechanical eff-.'cts held the boards at New Market last night. They went iu a moving wagon aud what was left of them came back in what was left of the conveyance. Tho audience was a good oue and those composing it say that the same cannot be said of the show. The citizens of New Murket concluded that it was a ffik-::, and as soon as the curtain fell ou tho last dramatic situutiou, an ominous murmur ran around ttie hall. When the scenery was liually packed and tho several stars safely stored away iu the wagon the return trip to this oity began. But the citizens were up in arms. A grocery store had been opened and 30 dozens of eggs were freely lavished upon tlie heads of theAtlionians,
Pete Smail, Mail Endicut, aud Hiuvey Mack being among the victims. When the eggs were all gone stones and clubs were called into requisition and it is safe to say a sorrier looking crowd never pulled out of New Market. They were all sopped in egg juice and several hsd severe bruises from contract with stones. A return date will not be played.
Tho show boys state tliat tho small neves of the stage prevented the wonderful mechanioal effects from being displayed to good advantage. 175 persons wore in the house and 815 wore cleared by the troupe. The eggs thoy say they exceedingly regretted and would have ixjrferred thom pooohed, but as thoy cost 20 oents a dozen and 30 dozen were used for their entertainment thoy ure not complaining.
'"Guess Which."
The junketing committee wliich went to Chicago, to investigate lights have returned aud will kuow, just what light to report ou next Monday night, regarding the city's own eleatrio light Thoy visited Oliicigo and several towns, which own their own lights but the system that downs all competitors now, as but they oould soe, is the ouo thai will light our city, maybe—but just what systom of lighting will go at present ia not for the people to know they will asoertaiu later. We will say that tho three just went to Chioago expressly to see the several schemes for making good light, aud they'll tell all about it ou next Monday night. The Westinghbuse, EdiBou and several others, are just as alike as a pair of twin brothers, aud after a thorough and exhaustive test, they decided the one they will buy is the best. Guess what we will haver Which system will be reported ou favorably by Light Committee?
