A HIPPODEOME.

Tbe Oory-Ftll Fight Easily Wou By the Former—Au Inierestiag Bare Knuckle Contest After It.

Last night the choice spirits of Cniwfordsville adjourneil en masse to the maideu city of Waynetowu whose inhabitants, for the most part, wisely kept iudoors, Thore wore enough 'Wayuetosinites out to aid as a reception committee though, and things went merry enough until four o'clock this morning which was the hour sot apart in the book of fate for the olVering up of "Ciiuckey" Fell on the alter of Ed Cory. This interesting ceremony took placc in a room adjoining Tom Bower's saloon, and in fact that gentleman was one of the presiding deities of the solemn occasion. "Friday" Clark was lx?hiud Fell and Howard Nicholson was time keeper. The referee and Cory's Siicoud are nameless here forovermore, as they are to the goodly assembly whose interests they serve. They came from Frankfort they said, and their tough appearance and liquor destroying proclivities being considered, it is safe to say they told no lies. Time being called the principals shyed their castors into the ring and began their skillful tactics of keeping out of harm's way.

First Round. Fell pushed the tight and honors were evenly divided. Contest being confined to sparing and light blows.

Second Round. Fell again pushed his antagonist who acted on the defensive. No hard hitting,

Third Round. Cory woke up and went after his meat. Fell missed Cory's face and in recovering received a blow oa the ribs which turned him around, when he got another similar heavy blow on the other side. He staggered and one tremendous crack on the ear and Mr. "Chuckey" Fell was in the laud of nod. He was picked up and placed on a chair as limp as a chop house dish rag and his second threw up the sponge amid the plaudits of the congregation.

Of so short duration was tlio tight that the cravings of the gang for gore were as yet unappeased. Mort Acker, the liberal patron of the turf, in consideration of the disappointment, came to the rescue and put up a pint of whiskey to be contested for in a bare knuckle contest by Jack O'Nitl and Tom Piatt. The struggle which ensued was an edifying sight antl one which could OBIV be appreciated by the audience of high toned gentlemen which beheld it. It lasted for eight gory, frothy rounds and Tom riatt was then as a tale that is told. The orgy continued until train time this morning when the gung re. turned home roasting OI Gill all the way for losing the ticket which was to have carried -I'J of them home.

Tho termination of the tight was no surprise and the principals left at once together for Chicago. Not much money changed hands although several sports from New Richmond had staked their little all that Fell would not fall for ten rouuds. The citizers of Waynetown are wild and swuar :,at every man who had anything to do with the light will be prosecuted relentlessly. Mort Acker, Tom Piatt and Jack O'Neil now repose iu the Wavnetown calaboose and will be tried this evening. There were several good lights iu the Wayuotown streets and t.vo or three parties complain of being robbed. It is safe to say that this playful excursion will end badly for a number of sports. .VOTKS.

Charley Berry was not there. Tho grand jury which meets n-xt Tuesday will go after some of the participants.

Jim Hamilton says that Fell was knocked out two rounds sooner than had been agreed upon.

The Waynetown saloon keepers say they made more money last night than they Lati for a year before. it is stated that a good citizen tf Waynetown gave Cory a gold watch for doing tho work iu three rounds. "Curly" Sullivan was knocked down the stairs by the door ket-p.-r from Frankfort for attempting t_ break iu. "Buuty" Brown had a big piece gouged out of his chock by ^n unknown friend during a pleasant passage of arms.

Westfi*.ll, the Chicago middle-weight who rel'ereed last evening, will meet "Friday" Clark the 27th oi I his month it is said.

It is said that 8150 worth of tick ts were sold although not more than two hundred saw the Hght. The entire La fayette delegation failed to make connection.

Sheriff MoClaskey received a telegram from tho Covington police asking if the principals were wanted here, but tho shorifl'sai he didn't want them in hisbusiness.

Pros«cntor Moflett went Waynetown this alternoon in response to a telephone message asking him to prosecute several lawbreakers who were locked up as a result of last nights' sport. Cory and Fell are in Covington on route for Chicago. The last seen of them was about noon to-day when Cory was shooting craps on a wood pile and Fell was so drunk ho had to be put to bed.

Thecaseof R-v. Joshua A. Spears against the Greencastlc gravel road came to an end to-day after a long and tedious trial. Tho jury rendered a lengthy verdict iu which they declared that Mr. Spears had beeu severely iujured by falling from a bridge which the road had failed to keep in repairs. They awarded him $.350 and costs.

Thi6 afternoon Mayor Carr and Couu oilmen Soott and Reynolds returned fiom Chicago. They have thoroughly enjoyed their three days tour of inspec tion and visited all the good plants in aud around Chicago. They possessed themselves of many valuable facts but intend to keep the result or their inves tigation very quiet until next Monday evening when they will submit a lengthy rejKjrt at the Council meeting. Elkhart was not among the places visited and the plant which caught the Councilmen's fancy was at Batavia.

The Fayerweather Will Uontest. The contest over the will of the late Daniel B. Fayerweather began last Monday end there is every indication that it will be a long and tedious case. Thus far it has been proven tint ou tho dav that Mr. Fayerweather died a will different from tho one admitted to probate was written and by a diir.-rent law firm from the ouo which wrot the other. Wabash College is represented by a New York law tirm.

Death of Mary Lewis,

Tho funeral will ooour to-mor-row afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Old School Baotist church. Interment at the Masonic cemetery. The deceased was an estimable lady revered by a largo circle friends.

No Ohiuige Wanted.

A report has gained currency by some means that Charles C'oombB will ask for change of venue from this oounty. Mr. Bruner, his attorney, states that it is absolutely false. The oase will lie tried here and probably in the March term.

Private Opinion Made Public-i-roseoutor Moflett.—"I shall take uo steps toward prosecuting those prize fighters that the law does not direct mo to take. If the officers make any arrests I shall most certainly do my duty toward the 1 iwbreakerH without fear or favor."

OOLlEUE NOTES.
