The quickest way to get a good new thing into use is. to take the risk of it.

You can get the corset that, more than any other, gives a woman a happy face, you can wear it two or three weeks and return it if not satisfactory. Ask at your store. The corset is Ball's.

The store has a primer on Corsets also. That is worth your reading.

United Stat* navy, celebrated for his capture of the ram Albemarle and other exploits during the war. 1S6S Mr. Ilmr'H presidential succession bill passed the senate.

HOW IT OFSBATES.^

The Cleveland Leader makes the following comment on tariff laws and trusts: The McKinley law makes a heavy reduotion in the duty on binder twine. This was insisted upon by the Senate, ostensibly as a rebuke to the alleged binder twine trust. This throws the Amerioaa market open to foreign binder twine. What is the result? A London dispatch to the New York Her aid says that thirty-throe out of the thirty-five cordage manufactures in Great Britain were represented at meeting the other day and formed a oom. bination to control production and prices not only in Europe but in the United States also. That is just what the Leader predicted the result would be. The question of trusts is entirely aside from that of the tariff. The home pro doction of binder twine has virtually been destroyed by that provision of the MoKinley law, consented to in order to save the tariff bill but the binder twine trust Is as strong as ever. It has simply shifted its ground. The lesson o* this is that while a tariff law may easily be so frnmod as to kill an industry, no tariff law oan kill trusts.

THE Cincinnati Timee-Stur makes the followingstateinent, but gives no facts or figures to support it: "Ou the face of the returns the women of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in the fight for representation on the fioor of the GOD. or 1 Conference, have won. Dr. Buokley, who has fought them from the beginning, if apparently badly beaten. Of course there will be no jugglery. No •back deestricts' can come in now and change the result. The clergy in annual conferences have yet to vote on the question, and the Goneral Conference is yet to pass final judgment. It will be a great surprise if those two tribunals fail to ratify the voice of the church. To oppose the plaH of woman representation now is only to delay what is inevitable. Dr. Buckley and his coworkers are not likely much longer to escape a measurement of mental strength with able women in the spirit' ed debates of the "hurch."

A CHANGE is to take plaoe in the Warden ship of the Northern Prison. James Murdock, who has filled the position for so many years, is to retire the first of Murch and will be succeeded by J. W. French, editor of the Lafayette Journal. The appointment will of course necessitate the removal of Mr. French to Michigan City and his retirement from the editorial management of the Journal. Who will succeed to the ed itorship has not been made known.

THE indignation over Commissioner Price's action in selecting the Superin tendont of the Poor Farm is not confined to Republicans. Many Democrats are equally wrothy, and Commissioner Byers comes in for a share of the exe orations. If thece two gentlemen had selected a competent Democrat, such as Allen Robinson, Lant Long, or some other gentleman equal in respectability and fitness, the Bepublioans alone would have been compelled to have taken Piioe's lymph, however, nausiaiing as it may have been. As it is, Democrats and Bepublioans alike must join in the ghost danoe.

The Young People's Beading OiroloHoary Giles said "What is put into the first of life is put into the whole of life." Acting upon this idea the State Teaohers' Association in 1887 organized a Young People's Banding Circle. The Circle is managed by a board of directors, consisting of the most prominent educators of the State. TLe principal duty of the board is to select the books for eaah year's reading. The books are of five different grades corresponding to the advanoemeut of the pupils in the schools. These books are furnished at wholesale prioes. Last year there were thirty thousand boys and girls enrolled in the Circle. Not muoh has yet been done in this county, but an effort is being made to introduce the books into some, or all of the schools in eaoh township of the oounty. We would urge parents and teachers to co-operate in this good work. We ought to have a

Cirole of at least three or four thousand in this oounty before the olose of the sohool year. Arrangements have been made with Q. W. Wasson, 103) South Washington street, Crawfordsvillet to furnish the books, although he does not realize a oont of profit. Let everybody when purchasing holiday books for the ohildren get reading oiiole books of the proper grades.
