PINK Rinr:!: A«K.VCY, via IJushville, S. D., Dec. 12.—Yankton Charlie, a fullblooded Sioux, and Uovernment
Bcout,
came in at '2 o'clock Thursday morning from tho Indian camp in the Bad Lands and reports a bloody tight among the followers of the Indian Chiefs Short Dull and Two Strike. Each claimed tho leadership and oach tried to secure it by force.
Tho rosult is from twenty to fifty dead Indians. This report is veritled by several friendlies who havo been waiting for somo time to escape to tho agency. As tlio spies took advantage of tho light to make their escape it is not known yet which chiof conquered. Largo reinforcements have coma in from Standing Itock and other agencies.
Tho depredations of the Indians havo beon oxtondod to tho foot of tho Black Hills. Tho Flying Boll herd, owned in tho hills, has been captured. It is useless to talk of peace. Thero has beon po attempt made on tho part of tho hostiles to movo out of thoir introncliments sinco tho peace council was held. None of the promises made have been kept. There is groat excitement hero.
It is said that whon tho chiefs returned from tho agency a council was held. Two Strike and his followers favored peace, but Kicking Bei'r, Short Bull and other chiefs, composing tho majority of tho camp, took decided ground on the other side. Tho council lasted several hours, during which tho oxcitement reached the highest pitch, and finally broke up in a light. The troops have beon ordered to be in readiness by to-day to march to the Bad Lands.
When Baptist Gouva and Louis Shaugran, the loaders and interpreters of the half-dozen scouts who were sont several days ago to tho Bad Lands, entered the camp at tho edgo of the Bad Lands, many of tho Indians wero for killing them. This prooipitated a row in which •two Strike and his followers who aro desirous of coming to the agency defended the scouts and they remained, industriously engaged in tho double task of peace-making and collecting stolen hors9s. Yankton Charlie says that the hostiles told of a skirmish that had taken placo on the Cheyenne river and that two of their number had been killed, but had been brought back to life by tho Messiah.
Foi'.T LINCOLN, N. D., via Bismarck, Doc. 12.—The people of llebron, a few miles west of here, have just completed a formidable earthwork and are nowprepared to stand off any niunbor of redskins that may come against them. The fort is circular in form, about 100 yards across, and provided with interior embankments. Tho ground in front is covered with an entanglemont mado of barbed-wire stretched on short stakos. In case the Indians leave tho reservation and make for tho British border this villago would be directly in their line of retreat.
CHICAGO, Dec. 12. telegram received ters in this city doubt in General
—General Brooke's at army headquarThursday left somo Miles' mind as to
whether tho engagement reported in the dispatch occurred between tho Indians and troops or was simply a row among tho Indians themselves. Tho dispatch was as follows: "PINE HILOE, Dee. 11.—From reports recoived I am of the opinion that Two Strike and all the other chiefs ure coming In from White river. Short Hull and Kicking Hear, with small following, broke away und went back into the Had Lands. Think it likely they will go north. I have notllieil all troops north and west. There was quite a flt!ht and some Indians were hurt. 1 shall try to get them in here but Ihey may get beyond reach. "J. 13. llltnOKE, HT Britradk-r General Commanding."
KAXSAS Ctrv, Mo.. Dec. 12.—Dr. H. Von Leuttwitz, of the United States army, was at the Union depot Thursday morning on his way from Fort Reno to Pine Ridge agency. He says all uncivilized Indians of tho Indian Territory have the Jlesr.iah craze, and thero is dancing going on. No one is particularly alarmed, however, as thero aro enough soldiers to prevent trouble. He anticipates no trouble until spring, whon he predicts one of the greatest Indian uprisings in the history of the country. He emphasizes the statement that the only good Indian is a dead one. Even the Government scouts have been participating in the ghost dances. Ho says thero are 9,000 young bucks in the Territory who aro eager for glory, and the old chiefs encourage them by telling stories of former victorios. He tells of three young squaws who wont to school three years, and as soon as they returned they put on blankets and joined in the tjhost dance. He says the Indians are belter armed than tho whites.
ARKANSAS CITY. Kan., Dec 12.—It has boon discovered that a large number of tho cattle driven oil tho Cherokee outlet aro now on tho Osago and Kaw reservations. This is directly opposed to Secretary Noble's ordor, but tho Indians have divided tho cattle among individuals and intend to fill their contract with tho cattle men. Ono troop of cavalry was sent to see that tho cattlo were driven off tho reservations, but the Indians paid no attention to the soldiers. Threo moro troops loft Camp Merritt Thursday. Troublo is anticipated.
WASHINGTON", Dec. 12.--General Schofield has received tho following favorable dispatch from General Milos about the Indian situation: Reports from General Rugei and General Brooko aro quite favorable. The prosonco of troops now in position has had a demoralizing influence upon the Indians, and those that a week ago were defiant and warlike are now giving evidence of submission.
Fortunute ieuttierniid Sou. "Iam ns certain ae I now live," sayd 0E. Bnjthomew, of Kaskaska.Mioh., "that Dr. David Kennedy's Favorite Remedy, of Boundout, N. Y., saved my life when I was a victim of that terrible venal disorder—Brlght'B dlscapc. My son had a fever sore on his leg. Ho, too, used Favorite Remedy, and is now well. But for this medicine I am sure both father and son would have been six foot under the sod."
