Shot a Lynx.
On Saturday evening as a party was ooon hunting north of Garfield the dogs treed an animal of more than ordinary mivageness, but which was at last brought do rn by the gnn of Dave Binford. It proved to be a 20 pound lynx, young UDd savage, and is supposed to be the animal which has played ha' oc with tho small stock of the neighborhood lately.
The Schubert Quartdtta.
ihi Schubert Quartette which is to open the Y. M, O. A. course of entertainments on December 3 is tliun spokeu of by Bishop Vinoent: "Tho Sehubeit Quirtetta lias performed at Ohautauqua for three years. We hrivo never presented to a Chautauqua audience a oompany whoso siuging possesjed more power, harmony aud spirit, uor uuy wLioh were more acceptable and popular."
Is He Mistaken?
George Boyland, of Garlield, who has tiken oath tbat Fred Immel expressed an opinion of Pettit's guilt before serving tho jury, offers to prove by several witnesses that Immel exolaimed iu a crowd of several when hearing the rumors', "Why, that man ought to be hung." JoeIhomas, one of these witnesses, states that he himself made that remnrk upon the ocoasion referred to and not Mr. Immel, whom he says said nothing at all.
An Athenian in Uklahoma. 1 ho Oklahoma Oity Daily Times has ten headed article ealogistio of Judge Burford's administration. The substance is as follows: llegister Burford and Receiver Delmoy have been diligently endeavoring to bring the affairs at the land office under their care, to a higher plane of honorable and civilized dealing between man and man. They determined that everything done shall be done on the strictest business principles and no rowdyism or dull-dozing will lie allowed. One -lay latoly in a contest room it is said that a 'gun' was drawn and a threat was made that if a certain witness ewore to certain thing that he should not'live to walk out of the room. On anotlior occasion a man staid five hours in the land office, not daring to venture down because His life was threatened. The officials havo decided to put a stop to such frontier practices and this morning Judgo Burford was cillod to decide a point of difference between two attorneys in which some violent language was used in a threatening manner. Judge Burford stopped the fraotious attorney iust'iuter, and said "We will have no more of this. We demand as muoh courtesy in this room as in any court, and another thing, there are to be no more pistols or knives in this land offioe. I shall hare the first man arrested that has a deadly weapon on his parson." Sevoral witnesses looked down their noses but not a word was said. The oaso of a man who carries a weapon, is by mauy looked on with suspicion
Wiion Burford and Delaney made a ruling on any point, the attorneys and olaimints know that it means just what is said. In a short time the business at tho land cffico will go off like a Sunday sahool.

Larsh, bosides some ohoioo musio by tho choir and congregation. The sorvioes at the First Presbyterian churoh yesterday morning were conducted by Rev. Bobt. King, of Wabash College, who took for his text: ''Every good gift, and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning."— James i, 17, It is the heart within a person which oontrols the actions, and tho circumstances surrounding thp person are only nsed to carry out the instincts of the heart. It is not the Baloons that makes drunkards, but it is tho desire for drink within men that causes them to drink and which virtually keeps the saloons runniug. Ten thousand saloons can not make a drunkard of a man who has no desire for liquor. A true Christian will not desire to sit in judgment upon another Christian, but should try to show l""m the error of his ways and help hin. to recover himnelf instead of doing all that is within his power to keep him doivn. The heart within, governs the actions of men in all the walks of life.
