THE CREAMERY PROJECT. Quite a large number of our citizens assembled nt the small court room lust evening to hear what was to be said about the proposition to construct a butter factory in our city. John XI. Suhultz, I'lvni'li-nt of the Business Men's Association, took the chair an.l culled the house to order and retjueted P. S. Kennedy to state what he had learned about the factory In Lafayette, which he had lately inspected. Mr. Kennedy said he had gone to Lafayette at the suggestion of a number of our people to see the new butter factory recently put Iu operation there, and to learn what he could about the business of butter making under the factory system. He found a factory there which had Just started, turning out loO pounds of butter per day all of which had, so far, been sold In the city of Lafayette. The milk was brought In by the farmers and sold to the factory fot per hundred pounds, or Bbout cents per gallon. The factory was not yet getting enough milk to run to Its full capacity, which was about 500 pounds per day but the stock holders were hopeful of a complete success of the expetinient. He could see no reason why it should not succeed, as the demand for the butter was as constant and universal as the demand for sugar and coiTee, There were over sixty -two million people In the I nltcd States, all of whom ate butter as soon as they were old enough and to supplv this number of people it required more butter than wo could now produce, and for years back we have been drawing largely in foreign '•ouiitrles for our supply. Craw fordstiliu lie thought, was one nf th" best locations to be found in th country for a butler factory. We had a buoy of land which for fertility and adaptability the grazer, could not be excelled. Besides die ground, we had abundance ul pure, clear water for dally slock, and ll en we had the best system of free gn.v.:l loads to be. found anvwhere, over hich to haul our milk to the fnetot v. had spent, he said more than 5-TIKI,in for gravel roads and railroads, but, i-o far, we had produced but little to luiiii on our gravel loads or to ship away OP our railroads, Crawfordaulo was iu state of decay, and unless our people waited up, the town would soon be a UK re station on the railroads.
Le thought the propose 1 butter factory would l.e Ki-eat tiling fo, i„,Ui th,. town and the oountiy. Butt-r would oe made somewhere to feed our sixty-two million people and It would b- made and sold at a profit, and lie did not see why Mont, gomery county might not as well help to make It and get whatever advantage was In the business as for some other community to do it. Dairy farming was superceding grain and slock raising in all the Northwestern States. Iowa which In lfiSO had but three million dollars worth of .lai ry [products he was Informed was now produced fifty millions. And with all this Increase the price of butter was going up instead of down. The demand was increasing fast or than the supply. Under the new piooess for making butter, the lk was brought to the factory In tho morning, frehh from tho cow, tho cream was Immediately separated from tho mtlk by a little whirling machine no larger than a common water bucket, made eight thousand revolution In a minute, a speed so great tho human mind could not grasp It. Not a particle of ream was left In the milk, A barrel full of the milk, standing for twenty-four hours, would not ralso a speck of cream as largo as a pin's head after it had boon
run through the separator. And, thou, all tho butter made by this process was pure, clean and sweet, und always sold In the markets at the very highest price. Ho thought the business men In town and and tho farmers hi the country should subsarlbe stock enough at once to start this fa-tory. ruder our present method of making butter, one half of tho product of the county was u"t fit for anything but wngon greas—under this now process allthe butter would be first class and would command a llrst class price, and this would, at once, double tho Inoome from our cow, If dairy fa'iulng was aot more profitable than grain and stock raising why weroallour North-
He was followed by W. G- Clark who stated that he had made a partial can vass on three roads leading from tho city to ascertain tho numbor of cows that could be depended ou for their product. Hoseouredtho prom 1 so of 300 and" was satisfied that 1,000 oould bo had within a radius of fifteen miles. IIo submitted a proposition for the consideration of the meeting which was this: That a stock company should be organized with a capital stock o' from $7,000 to 1O,0OO. He and Mr Waterbury would subscribe for $1,500 of the stock and agree to pay the subscdb ers of the remaluder of the stock at tho rate of 8 per cent per annum for five years with the priTlIedge of ten years
It was then moved by Col. I C. Elston that a committee consisting of 1'. S. Kennedy, John M. Shultz and T. H. Ristlne bo appointed to draft articles of incorporation, prepare stock subscription books and solicit stock. The committee accepted their assign tnent and are to report at a meeting to be called by the President,
Prof. H. S. Krltz was also appointad 0 prepare an article for tho newspapors setting forth the advantages to be dorived from such a factory In Orawfordsvllle.

Ooinio Opera.
There tins been a remarkable amount of interest displayed in the coming of tho organization known as the Marie Greenwood Comic Opera Company at Music Hall on Saturday evening, Nov. 5. There Is every Indication that the opera they produce here "Boccaccio' will have some magnetism for 1 Overs o' ood comic opera as such productions as this will be, are not of every day occurence and we herald the event with leasure The Dally States, of New Orleans, Louisana, a paper of 110 ordinary repute in that section of the country, mentions the performance there as follows "Miss Marie Greenwood as Fiorella made herself favorite here by the splendid manner in which she sang her le. She possesses a remarkably sweet oice which she has under perfect control. Miss Greenwood Is the best singer comic opera that has been here in any a day, and the audience fully ap predated her efforts and eompelled her to respon.i to several heaity encores."
