WHY EVEBY MAN SHOULD VOTE FOB MOUNT. Farmers have long complained that they wore not represented by their own olnss in our law-making bodies. Our balls of legislation, it has long been urged, are filled by lawyers, merchants and traders, who work for their own interests and pay no attention to the wants of the farmer. If farmers have heretofore been sinoero in making these oomplaints, they should rally to the support of Mount. If they do not they should forever keep their mouths closoii about legislation in which the wishes of farmers are not consulted. So far as men are ooncerned, the issue is very sharply made. Mr. Brookshire was raised ou the iarm, became disgusted with the business, lost all sympathy for all those who toil in the mud of the barn-yard, and sought an easier life in the pursuit of law and politics. He was scarcely admitted to the bar when he became a professional politician and oiBoe seokor. Mr. Mount, his opponent^ was raised on the farm and glories in staying there and driving the plow and and reaper. He is up with the lark in the morning, looking after his flooks and herds, while Mr. Brookshire is enjoying his morning nop in the quiet of the yet slumbering city. Wo do not draw this sharp contrast between the lives of the two men for the purpose of disparagine Mr. Brookshire. His life has been, and is quite as honorable, ^perhaps, as that of Mr. Mount. It is done for no ou.c: purpose than to present dearly the issue which the farmer have long sought to raise. And now what will the farmers do? On wbioli side will they stand? If they vote for

Brookshire, it will show their anxiety to bo represented in Congress by a farmer was not, after all, so great as they thought is

The Democratic mana

ger* sought neither to noninate nor elect a farmer to Congress from this distnot. N a farmer was over thought of as the nominee of tho Congressional oonvention. If the fanners really desire to be represented in Congress by a farmer, why not vote for Mount? He is a farmer with all tho farmer'* tastes habits and sympathies, and will natural ly feel an earnest desire to do all that can be done for tho good of the farming community. He is able, talented and industrious, and will present what ho takes hold of on tho floor of Congress with consummate skill and force, as ho did on the floor of the State Senate at the last session, where he gained the good will and applauso of not only his friends but his generous opponents. If the farmers of the district assist in do featiug Mr. Mount, what inducement •\rill there be in the future for any leadiug political party to nominate a farmer for offioe? It will be said that it is use to again try such an experiment, for the farmers deserted their own fellowlaborer to vote for tho lawyer and poli ticiau. Thefco tilings are presented for the consideration of farmers, not out of auy ill will townrds .Mr. Brookshire— who is a moBt cxoollent young man' but to show to that great and honored o!ass of good and substantial citizens, that they should not neglect the present opportunity to raise their calling to level with tho halls of Congressional legislation. They should be eager to demonstrate to the world that a farmer, as well.03 a lawyer, can per form useful service and gain eminence in the ooun cil of the nation. As a farmer, as a soldier, as a senator he has been successful, and he oannot be a failure as a representative in Congress.

an articlo is inoreased in price preoisoly by the amount of the tariff, it certainly will follow as a conseqnenoe that the same article will be reduced in prioe precisely by the amount of the tariff if the duty is removed. It iB a poor rule that won't work both ways. Sugar having been placed on the froe list by tho McKinloy bill it ought to be ohoaper by from 2J to 3 cents a pound. But Demoorats have nothing to soy oonoerning freo sugar.
