I{!]mblie!in caudidato for Congress, liu smallest and most contemptible is the oliargo that Mr. Mount inherited all his wealth through his wife. This, of oouri-o, is not true, but what matters it HO an issuj can be made in tlio campaign. Another charge is that Mr. Mount drew largo pay from the State for attending the various Farmers' Institutes Inst vintcr and spring. To set this matter in its proper light and to state the exact facte, Prof. Lattu, of Purdue University, whom, as superintendent, was committed tha work of holding these Farmers' Institutes, communicates a letter to the Torre Haute Express. He says:

The apportionment to each oounty was §10, and this sum was in most casus wholly absorbed in paying hall rent, advertising, and tho traveling expenses of speakers, so that absolutely nothing was loft to pay any one a por diem. In a very few instances, whore the S-t0 was not all used in defraying expenses, the local managers, appreciating the edlciont work of their visitors, bestowed the unexpended balance ou the speakers. These instances were the exception, however, and not the rule and I have personal knowledge of tho tact that Hon, James A. Mount and Mre. Meredith—both of whom have been charged with receiving large pnv for their services—did not alwnyB got back even their necessary traveling expenses, while freely donating their time to tho work. It is simple justice to the publicspirited, largo-hearted men and women who donated time nnd talent to tho institute work—aud thore were scores of them of all political faiths—to let the public know of their gratuitous services ni a good cause. Indeed, tho success of tho institutesiias been very largely due to these same men and women, who, for their necossrj-y expeuees while so engaged, generously left their homes and tlmir business to devote dnys aud weeks and even months to mstitutc work. "All honor to such men aud women. May their numbers increase is tho wish of tije undersigned."
