The Tippecanoe Association at Waynetown Last Friday and Saturday. Tho Tippeoanoe ABsooiation of the Biptist ohuroh oouvonod with the church at Waynetown on Friday, Sept. "26th, and was called to order at 10:30a. in." by the Moderator, Rev. G. P. Fuson, of Crawfordsville. In the absence of tho appointee, Rev. W. B. Riley, the opeuing sermou was preached by Rev. N. Carr, of Frauklin. He took for his text, numbers xiii, 30, 31,"and preached a strong, sensible, praotioal sermou, describing the "long necked giauts," and touching up the "stiff ueoked deacons" and faint hearted preaohers und laymen who stand in the way of the progress of Christ's kingdom.
Rev. G. P. FUBOU was re-eleoted Moderator, Rev. J. B. Thomas was chosen Clerk, and H. H. Brant, Treasurer.
Every one of the fifteen churches was reprinted. The latter showed a fair state of progress. The following figures were gleaned from tlio reports: Gains by baptism, 82 letter, 5-1 experience, 16 restored, 0 total gain, 157. Losses by letter, 56 exclusion, 8 orusuro, 14 death, 25 total loss 103. Net grain 54. Present membership 1,498. The total contributions Yeported were, for Home missions^ 814L26 foreign missions,' $129.ti2,State oonvention, 3125.G3 publication society, 820.33. Smaller amounts were given to the Baptist minister's home, and in other lines of benevolent work. It should be remembered that some of the ohurclies did not got in their contributions for State missions in time to send in the reports, among them Lafayette, the strongest ohuroh in the Association. The Crawfordsville ohuroh increased the amount given for State missions from $20 last year to 831. U) this year, without diminishing the amount piid for other objects.
Three of the churches, Lafayette, BrookBton and Attioa ore without pastors.'1 The dsual ntftnber o{ rigerita '"and secretaries were proftciit. Revi Cliflds', of VeVm6n spoke for foreign' missions Rev. A. Ogle for State missions "R'ev. D. R. McGregor for home missions RevJ S. H. Huffman for publication society Rev. E.'O. Pratt, of Kentucky, -who oanatiluted the Waynetown ohuroh more thin 50 years ago was in attendance, and preached twb very able sermons on Sunday.:
In keeping with the time-honored-clist am of preaching a dootrinal sermon' on Saturday by some one appointed the year before, the Modertitot'' discussed the docrine of Restitution, text Acts ill. 21. Other sermons wore preached by| Rev. T. Weir, Rev. E. O. Steining, and Rev. W. H. Vanoloavo
The reports on Womeii'B work, which Bhowed some progress, were read Saturday afternoon, but for lack of time the discussions were limited to only a" few minu tea, The usualliatoti of resblutidnfc were read and passed. Oiie, relating to bonevolent wdrk, advising each church to have one common fund' "for missions," has in it sonie elements 'of progress but is oumbered with toomuoli machinery and threatens to antagonize Uit pteol6ris drttdlfe

A New Wonder.
Wo live in an ago ot wonders, and one of tho greatest,- ha» reached Crawfordsville and \yo shall attompt to describe it.
SinpolT'l tho Enoyolopnxlla Britannico has been tho crowning work in English Uteraturo. Its history and'growth aro a part qf the history of tho growth and diffusion of kuowlodge. As enlightenment und culturo have increased, this, monumental curriculum of learning hasgi o\vn and kept pace with them. A,word as t« Its growtjh will bo interesting
Thq success of tlio, original was such that the editors and publishers wero awakened to a sense of tho true importance, of tho task the.v had taken in hand and to tho necessity for a more comprehensive schcmo 'than at ilrst adopted and its reception in spired them to soon set about its enlargement and revision. Since theu It has been the standard and as tho btorary world-de-manded from time to time has run through eight successive editions and supplement af follows:
First edition, 3 vols., published 1771. Second edition, 10 vols., 1778-1783. Third edition, 18 vols., 17S8-17U7.
I Supplement, 3 vols., I80t: '"v Fourth edition, 30 vols., 1801-1810. Fifth edition, 20 vols., completed 1817, with a supplement of 7 Vols.. 181ft 1834. Sixth edition, 20 vols., 1823 Seventh edition, 21 vols., 1830-1842. Eighth edition, 21 vols., 1853-18il. The reader will sqe that sinco this last revision great scientific discoveries havo boon mado, much history has been written unknown territory has been explored, and countless mighty, events havo been written by Time. To keep pace with this progress we now have theNinth Edition,of Twontifour volumes, averaging 850 pages each 20,000 pages, 2o0,000 subjects I The following comparison of amounts of type required and prices of other great works, is by Prof. A. P. Lyon, of New Yoi*k, in tho Electrotype Journal:
The Bible contains 3,500,000 ems. Webster's Die., 20.000,000 ems at$12. Chamber'sCyc., 48.000,000 ems ttttfO. Johnson's Cyc., 50.000,000 cms.,, at f4S. Appleton's Cyc., 00,000,000 erne., a I *85. Encyclopaedia Brrtann ica, 140,00(1,000 cms at $I30to $1'.I5.
The completion of the Ninth Edition has onablod the public to measure this magnif cort work and compare it with other cy clopiedias. Tho result lias been to estublis boyond question its unqualiflod superiority. It is a giant wnerc others.aro pigmies. It stands tho noblest work in all Uteraturo tho one only adequate representative of tho advanced thought and scholarship of the, world. In tho amount of brain-work furnished, it Immeasurably transcends all competition. It is tho only Encyclopaedia in which each principal subject is treated by an acknowledged authority.upon that subject. No other has spent ono-third as much monry on literary labor, as the Britannico. Not one has given #10,000 for a singlo article, or $600 a page for written matter, as it has. No other can show a list of pricipal contributors either so eminent in thoir departments of scholarship, BO varied in rationality and profession or so njiiuorous., .Thflfull list tors numW ljUSj^orsflng, wcWe ttn mostemlnontlite'rary and shien'tiflcnam'ej of Europe and Amortca:
Tho English Edition of the workds sold in this country at M.fiO per vol ,«sd tho American Edition at $5 00 per voL* id cloth binding making the cost of tho set of 34 vols, respectively $193 and $120.
While the Britanmca is the acknowledged standard, incomparably tho best apd most desirable Enclopaidia in existencc, its high cost has placeditoutaf thoreachch pt most people. This, bar to Us .popular use has now been happily removed
By a new process of etching upon zinc, giving a clearer and harder surface than even an electrotype plate, .the art of reproduction has at length been brought to a higher perfection. The new Popular Edition of tho Britannica is a porfoot and exact reproduction of tho original work page for page, by this new jiroccss, which, tor clearness and beauty of print, loaves nothing .tfi be desired. And it is thjs which is new offered to our people, at an astoundingly low price, by tho enterprise of Mr. O M. Lacoy. Do not think this is in way a cheap, old and unsalablo book, on flimsy strawior',unlaudriod bass wood'.' paper, iq paper covers, and, with a glfie^.tiaclf. Wp havo seen It, and it is mado bettor tljun thp average book in your library It ia'a handsome,,largo, now volnmo in Rdntiino English cloth, heavy oakum—not straw boards, doublo-hingod, flexible back and on fine super-sized and supec-calendei od book papor, with colored maps, pl.atqs, illustrations, Index, marginal references, (tho only American reproduction having them) and—just call and examine it for yourself, at the store of O.
