Robert Downing*

Philadelphia Daily Nows: Robert Downing, the distinguished young Amorioau aotor, appeared at tho Grand Opera House last night before a laigj and enthusiastic audience. The large stage gave ample room for a grand pro duotion of Saumet's version of "Nero.' Mr. Downing first mado his reputation in this play in Dr. Bird's version. Last night Mr. Downing's fino foroe of iotiou and expression was of a superior quality. The arena soeno, the most thrilling in the play, is introduced in the fourth act in this version, instead of tho second as in Dr. Bird's. Thus the interest in the play is kept up until the curtain drops at the end of the play. Tho support Mr. Downing receives at the hand of Miss Eugenie Blair, has muoh to do with the suocoss of the play.
