Crawfordsville Daily Journal, Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, 25 September 1890 — Page 4
A working woman said slit would walk ten miles to get the Ball corset, if she couldn't get it without. She had had experience with it.
That corset is just as easy the minute you put it on as it is when half worn out.
You can go to your store and get it and wear it two or three weeks, and then you will know what comfort is in a corset. If you are disappointed in it in any way, go back to the store and get your money within three weeks or so—you'll get it. The maker pays the merchant to do that.
There's a primer on Corsets for you at the store.

Thero was not a slow feature in it, and startling to relate, tho afterpiece was ono of tho best. The Binging was fine, the makeups good and all in all it deserved the packed house it would have received had not Bobby Beach and liis lizzie hero made tho publio exceedingly "leory" of the minstrel show. It is safe to say that if George Wilson oomes this way again ho will bo well received.

The Demooratio Party on Pensions Fifty Years Ago—Then as Now Against Them. To tlio Editor of Tho 'ournal:
In looking over an old oopy of the Whig Rifle, dated Indianapolis, July 20, 1814,1 find that James K. Polk, the Demooratio candidate for President while in Congress hod voted against a bill iving pensions to the old patriots of tho Revolution. After giving his vote tho editor makes the following comment:
We ask for no better evidence tlmt.a man is without a truo American heart than is furnished by suoh votes as these. Nor would we vote for suoh a man for President, even if we had the misfortune to belong to tho party that nominated him. There is something so cold,so unfeeling, so heartless and withal of suoh blnok ingratitude in the re fusal to smooth tho pillows of the soldiers c! the Revolution, that we con never forgive mon who refuse thom a mere pittanoe from onr abundanoo. We owe all we possesss to the patriotism and gallantry of men who Berved through along war, enduring hardships and privations to whioh wo are strangers, and then rooeiving pay in a oarre noy utterly valueless, and tho idea of making an ingrato who has steadily opposed the payment of a portion of the debt wo owe to our revolutionary fathers, President of the United States, is absolutely revolting. It ought not to bo ondured for a moment. Give us a man for President who luu some heart who can foel for others and who is not like VanBuren and Polk, all for themsolvos, a. S. M.

Mary Ellen Rice, formerly Mary Ellon Demaree, was born in Morcer county, Kentucky, Feb, 22, iu 1829, and died at her home near Wuvelund, Indiana, friday, September 12th, 1890, Her parents were Ooruolius and Marr Domaroe. Her mother'd maidou name was Marv Vanarsdale. In 1834 her.p _r ents removed from Kontucky to Parke county, Indiaua, and located ou a farm wnere liar father died in 183C. After the death of her father, her mother re mained on tho farm, and with a fixedness of purpose, and an energy and courage that challenge! admiration, reared her family to noble manhood, and splendid womanhood. It was hore that the deceased spent tho morning of her life, and amid 'tho scones attendant upon the early settlement of the country, and arouud a family altar, whose fires woro never allowed to go out, the foundations of that lifo and character, whioh she lived, and exhibited amoug yon, were laid. Sho was united in marriage with James M. Rice, at the home of her mother, Oclobcr9th, 1848. Both
Bhe and her husband were members ol this (Wavelaud Presbyterian) churoh at the t}mo of their marriagj, and the first thing Bet up in their home, was the family altar, and at it, daily, eho worshiped the God of her father and mother, and implorod for herself and family those blessings which none but God could give. She was the mother oft even ohildren, two of whom preceded hor to tho world of life and glory, namely Isaac Newton Rice and Susnn Nurcissa Rice Dooley. Tho remaining ones Charles C., William A., Mary E., Thomas A., Harrison C., and her huBbind, James M., Burvivo hor, and are all hero to-day, exoept William A., who resides with his family in the State of
Washington. Her life was a living epistlo known and read by you alL It needs no words of eulogy now to givo it abetter setting forth. Yon know with what enthusiasm and energy she threw herself into ovory duty of lifo, and with what quiet strength and patient trust in God, she worked and waited for the harvest. And now that she is gone we realize, as never boforo, that hor life was a positive inspiration to, and benediction upon, htr family and friends, the community in whioh she lived, and this ohuroh to which she belonged, aud in which sho felt suoh a profound iutorost. But we close. Faithful, loving, dovoted, Christian, wifo, mother, sister, friend, farewell! Citizen of Hoaveu, for the present, adieu!
