Purohased tho Booths.

The Board of Commissioners visited Lafayette yosterday and purchased of Wm. Falokemer & Son forty-two eleo tion booths for use in this county. They are eonstruoted of ash lumber morticed and glued, and with wrought iron hinges whioh admit of their being folded into small, neat packages. Those ash frames are ooverod with canvass ducking, and the door is of muslin. The outfit also contains thirty rod ballot boxes for the State tiokets, and thirty white onos for the county ticket. Only sixty were purchased, as tho twenty-four boxes already on hand will be refitted and utilized. These new boxes have firm tumbler looks and diffeiont keys. There are forty-two sots of baas wood railing, two rails to a set with the proper supports, and forty-two sots of white stakes with a mile of rope. Tho outfit was purohased at the very low price of $413.22, jutt 841.78 below the original bid of the oompany, whioh was the lowest bidder.

A Fioture Made by a Maohine. At Household Sewing Maohine display in oharge of Ed Townsley, the sight seer is struok by a beautiful pioture of one of these elegant machines. At first it looks as if painted, but a closer examination reveals the faot that it is worked in with different oolored threads. Mr. Townsley informs us that the whole thing was done on a Household machine. There are also two elegant laoe curtains worked by the same machine, which iuvariably attract the ladies. There are machines in oherry and in walnut, .ough variety to suit the most fastidious. Mr. Townsley has a smile for all and is himself not the least attractive in his most elogant display—one whigh tho fair directors ought to be proud to have in Floral Hall.

THE CLOSING DEBATE ON ADOPTION.

A Conference with the Hnnsc Atkod for Ami tho tConfcrreflS CNUIIUMI No Quorum In the Hounc i'roventa

IltKlrtcfis Iiolng Done.

Tin? TAitn-F BILL RASSICR WASHINGTON, .Sept 11.—Tlio .Senate mot at 11 o'clock on odnosilay, and after routino business, ttio tariff bill wn9 taken up tho quostion beine on its passages with six hours allowed to closo tho discussion, aftor which tho vote is to be taken. Mr. Hoar «as tbo first to address ll.c Senate. Referring to tho reciprocity proposition ho said that ho had voted for it with somo hesitation and should not have done so if he had thought that tho schemo contained in the amondmont was all that wus likely to eomo out of entering oa that policy. Thoro wore some great constitutional difficulties in the way which had boon ably atatod by Mr. Evarta. Ho thought also that on tho one sldo tho rociprocal exchanges woro incomplete and that thoy contained ono or two articles especially tin and hides that had to bo dealt with solely in tho view of internal interests and without relation to tho effect on other oountrles of their being taxed or untaxod. Ilo thought also that in tho forefront of any policy on that quostion tho United States should determine, to put an end, as far as legislation could do it, to tho practices of foreign nations Imposing export duties on' products used horo. He would havo such products coming from such nations excluded altogethor from American ports if they could bo supplied froui elsewhere.

Mr. Hifcock commenced his speech with a bitter arraignment of Doraocratic Senators who, ho said, had surpassed their prodocossors and thomselvos oharlatlnlsm, deraagoguism, misiopre sentation and insincere professions o! devotion to tho industrial interests of the country. Tho remainder of his argument was in support of the moasuro.

Senator Turplo addressed tho Sonato In opposition to tho bill. Opening with an allusion to tho phraso "Pauper labor" so often usod In tho tariff debato ho said that if that moant tho labor of Inmates of prisons or of olomosynary in stltutlons ho was very certain that none of tho products of such labor, either in Europe or in the Unitod States, entered into tho volume of foreign com' raorco, and that if it meant tho labor of those who were represented In tho International Congress of labor It should not bo qualified as "naupor." ft was t-ruo that tho laborers of Europe woro often very illy paid in somo linos, but In tho Cnltea States also they were often very wretchedly paid. If American wages were superior to wages In other countries It was a subject for rejoicing, but it waB no reason why tho Amorican laborer should bo subjected to unnecessary exactions ot to unjust taxation.

At tho closo of tho spoochos tho voto was taken and tho bill was passod— yoas, 40 nays, 29, a strict party voto— as follows:

Yeas—Aldrirb. Alloa Allison, niolr, Onmcron, Casey, ChaMlor. (,'uUum, Davis, Dowes Dixon. Evarts, Fiyo, tluwU y, inline, Iliacock, tloar, Ingallo, Jones McMillan, Mauflereon, Mitchell,

Senator Aldrich moved that tho Sonato Insist on Its amendments to "tho House bill and ask for a commlttoo of conference, tho confcronco to consist of sovon on oach side.

Tho motion was agreed to, and Sonators Aldrich, Shorman, Allison, niecock, McPhcrson, Vanco and Carlisle woro appointed conferroos on tho part of tho Senate.

Tho Senate then adjourned. HOUSE.

WASUINOTOX,
