l")r. J. It Bac.lianan, of Louisville, tins clone considerable in tlie way of prophesying and psychometrizing in his time, but liis latest effort in that lino ecli]ses all the rest for brilliancy anil originality. He writes in 'i'lie Arena that our earth is bowling along townrd "an infinite liorror, in which a sudden death is our linppie/st fate." So far as tho doctor is concerned jiersonally ho does not care, since ho is already on tho homo stretch of his last quarter of a century, and the terror will not conic in his time.
But for tho rest of tho world, those who are still to livo "twenty-three or twenty-four years," there will como a "convulsiunary period" the like of which lints not been known since Noah's llood. To begin, tho power of the church will be shivered to splinters—nothing left of It Tho power of the state will faro little better, and "tho marriage relation will approximate freedom." Tiiero will como tlie utter destruction of monarchy leaving only the sultan of Turkey on his Miabliy anil etTete old throne. Jt is very kind of Dr. liiichanan to except tho eultun from tho junk shop of oblivion to which ho consigns all tho rest of tho monarclis. But even we of the United States are not to escape. Tho Republican party will go to sticks, to bo followed by tho Democratic party in ]lower the Democrats will givo no bet ter Nitihfaction than the Republicans did, and they too will go down ingloriously, never to rise again. This ouglil to be a satisfaction to both parties. The Labor party will then tako hold, mid run things to suit itself..:,
Sanguinary revolution will break out in Europe at tho beginning of tho next cejitury. Nineteen years from now wo shall havo in this country "war or quasi war," with scenes of BO horrible a naturo that in mercy to our nervous systems tho doctor docs not tell us what they are. Naturo will follow politics and tho whole planet will go to flinders. In thirteen or fourteen years cold seasons will stop growing things and there will lo famino mid pehtilence. Tho Mississippi river "will shako liis mane and go on tho rampage, and ho never will stop his antics again, but will become a jicriodic.il horror, engulfing unhappy creatures along his banks without warning or mercy. Tho choicest horror wo havo left to close with. That is that in twenty-threo or twenty-four years, suddenly, about tho hour of noon, day not stated, in tho twinkling of an cvo tho wliolo Atlantic coast south of New England will sinlr fifty feet under water.

CRAWFOHDSVILLE, Sept. 1, 1890.
Via belloro wo do not ovor estimate popular Interest In tho store In guessing that ten thousand or Qfteon of our neighbors would like to know specifically how Blschof has como out of the novol experiment of building over the heads of storeful of pooplo, shutting out almost the light of day for weeks together, filling tho air with the terrors of noise and dust and darkness, and carrying on business in the mldfat of a storoquako by the faithful glare and gloom of gaslights, wondor whether half hlu trado hasn't scattered: to the four winds.
Wo have the greatest satisfaction fn saying that our trado has kept on going In spite of tho Inconveniences of building. Many timid and sensitive persons must have fcund the stoie so uncomfortable as to drive them away foi the time, but tho gro---th of our trado has been clear, notwithstanding, noarly every woek, and perhaps overy weok, without exception, and by growth wo moan Increase aboro the trade of tho eorrtspondlng week of last year. What Is more surprising, if the fact Is surprising, the parts of our trade that havo seemed to suffor most from shutting up, tearing down, withdrawing of light and ethor disorders of building have actually grown as fast an tho rest of the business. Dress stuffs Is the most consplclous example. Trade has gone on increasing In spite of tha worst the builders could do. In July curtains were In chaos but curtain trade prospered uncommonly. All summor umbrellas have .suffered unspeakable knooklngs about In vain they wei taken care of and sold and people seem to be happy becauso of the concessions la prices.
We have so far come out of the rash experiment happily, thanks for your patlenoe. Wo »«count for It just as we aocount for your patience In picking your way along the onaumbered sldo walks In front of any new building going up. You are loyal to your city, to your store.
The worst Is over and wo thank you a thousand times.
We give you substantial thanks not empty thanxs. Wo eommenco to-mor-mow a grand out salo. Many articles will be so'd In one day only, many more
