Two lecture have been delivered foro the Teachers' Institute, ono night and one this morning, that were in every sense admirable. Prof. Mott, of Dublin, last evoning entertained his audience with an address on "Dante and his Divina Commodia." After giving a sketch of tho groat poet's birth and lifo ho gavo his conception of that most wonderful poem, in which a vision is depicted and tho poet is oonduotel ilrst by Virgil, tho ^representative of human reason .through hell and purgatory and then by Beatrice, tho representative of revelation and dually by St, Bernard, through tho several heavons, where ho boholds the triuno God. Prof.

Haywood, of Attica, to-day gavo an address which was full of patriotism on Amorioanism and the Public Schools Both lectures should havo been hoard, not onlv by all tho teachers, but by every liody.

The Institute.

Tho programme yesterday afternoon deviated from tho schedule considerably aud as Prof. Coulter was unable to be present, Prof. Hurwood lectured on Botany. Mott gavo lecture.) on Reading and Goography. In tho evening a fair audience assembled to hoar Prof. Mott lecture on "Danto's Inferno." The lecture was almost startling.

This morning Harwood gavo a lecture on Botany again and was followed by a double barrelod lecture by Mott on

Old Settlors Meeting.

Quito a number of Crawfordsvillianp, including candidates, made a trip to Meharry's Grove yesterday to attend tho annual old settlers' meeting, largo orowd was present, the attendance being 0,000 in spito of tho busy season. Tlio Sohool Board this morning elected I. M. Wellington, of Muskegon, Mioli., as superintendent cf our publio sohools at a salary of $1,500 a year. Mr. Wellington arrived yesterday and will immediately rouiovo hero with his family. Mr. Wellington was born on a farm near Boston, Mass., and is a solfmndo man. Apprenticed to tho carpenter's trr-Je.he by hard labor saved enough money to prepare himself for Dartmouth college and pursued his course through that institution by teaching and other labors. Ho was oleotod Tutor in that oollego immediately after graduation in 1858, and has since boon oallod to tho following plaoos, his applicatioa for the Crawfordsville schools being tho first application ho over made: principal of the Fryburg, Maine, academy principal of the Elmira, N. Y., academy superintendent of the Port Jervis, N. Y., schools principal of tho Dotroit high sohool principal of Michigan military academy and superintendent of the Muskegon, Mioh., sohools. Tim latter position ho has hold for 10 years at a salary of §2,000, resigning last year on account of his daughter's health. Prof. Wellington is author of works on Syntax and Geometry, putting tho lattjr work into tyie himself, being a praotical printer. He has boon a professional teacher for 25 years and has everywhere mot with tho most flattering success. The schools of Muskegon enroll 102 teachers and have woudforfully improvod under his management. His rcferenoes are of tho highest and his list embraces the names of tho most omiuent oollego professors in the country. Prof. Wellington is 57 yoars of age and in vigorous health. Ho is a Uopublioan in politics and is a member o^ tho Congregational clmroh.
