She took heart and went on. When sho arrived in tho hall Mr. Hill was settling some dispnto imong tho actors. Ho was standing in the auditorium alone. The rehearsal was just over. The show was free the first night, but cost a quarter the second night. Tho house was packed. My friend stood on the stage and called l'or the spirit of Capt. Kidd and Pirate Gibbs. They answered at first and then they failed to materalizo. Something had gono wrong. 'Is the spirit of John Slade here?' said the medium. Silence followed. Tho audienco could hear .a pin drop. Then it was broken by a sepulchral voice from tho hollow caverns of tho stage, saying, 'I can't do a thing, cap'n, this fish line's gone and broke."—Lewistou Journal.
Governmental I*upor.
Authorities in tho treasury department say that the greatest difficulty counterfeiters meet with in tho imitation of United States paper money is found in tho peculiar paper used by the government, which has silk fibers running through it. Von can pull tlieso silk fibers out of one of Uncle Sam's notes without injuring it but if you split a counterfeit in two von will find any silk fibers that may bo in it simply laid between two films of paper, aud they will not pull out at all. The making of this paper is a government secret, and is conducted atDalton. Mass., under tho eye of treasury experts.—Washington Star.
