REPUBLICAN STATE CONVENTION.

The Republicans of Indiana, and nil others who will oo-oporate with them in tlit! coming campaign are invited to moot in delegate convention in TomlinHUII lirll, in the city of Indianapolis, on Wednesday, September 10, 1890, at 10 o'clock a. m. for tho purposo of adopting a platform and nominating ennidates for the various stato effioes, to be voted for at the November eleotion. The convention will bo composed of 1,320 delegates, twenty of whom will bo from .Montgomery county.

The delegates from tho counties composing tho several congressional districts will meet at Indianapolis at 7:30 o'clock on tho night preoeeding the day of the convention, at such places as may hereafter bo designated, for tho purpose of Bulootiug.

Ono membor of tho committee on permanent organization. Ono membor oi tho committoe on credentials.

Ono member of tho committoe on resolutions. One vice-prosidont of the convention.

One assistant secretary of tho convention. This call is issuod by order of tho Republican state central oommittee,

L. T. MIOUCNER, Chairman.

FRANK M. MILIKAX, Secretary. Indianapolis, Ind., August 1, 1890.

A000D NOMINATION.

Tho Indiana Farmer, acknowledged to bo tlio leading agricultural paper in the West, and which is of oourao nonpartisan, hus tho following to sny con corning tho nomination of James A. Mount:

Tho nomination of Hon.J.A.Monnt,of Montgomery county.for Oougross, seems to us one of tho very best that oould have been made. Ho is, in the first place, a successful farmer, owning and living on his farm, managing and working it himself. Ho is thoroughly identified with farming interests, and labored during Inst Legislature faithfully to secure tho passage of bill to prevent fraudulent enumeration of sohool children in cities, and thus givo tho country schools longer tonus and bettor teaoherB.

His succcss means the promotion of warm friend to tho farmer, an honest man, an educated gentleman and a devout Christian, to a position whero his well known abilities as a public speaker will givo him opportunity to do a groat work for tho benefit of tho fanners and the community at largo.

Wo speak thus strongly, not in disparagement of othor nominations that liavo been or will bo made, but because our long and intimato acquaintance with the 1111111 warrant us in giving him the endorsement. If tho fanners every where are as fortunate in selecting candidates tho buccess of their oause is assured,

New York has flattered itsolf that It is out of the regions wliero earthquakes can bo a sourco of danger. But tho big city has had a taste of several homonindc ones that will answer very well as a substitute for both earthquakes and volcanoos. Scarcely a wook passes that somo of tho gas, sewer or steam pipes under her sidewalks do not blow up, ojxjn clmsms In tho earth, hurl man, beast and paring stono Into tho air, and striko terror to tho heart of tho beholder, who never knows whon his turn will conio. On tho wholo, Now York's liomcmado volcanoes and earthquakes aro quite sufficient.

In 1880 the Stato debt wasS-t,998,178. Iu ton years it has grown to 88,540,616, and every dollar of the inoroase is duo to Democratic legislation and financiering. Tho time IB about ripo for a Republican Legislature.

MAKE all your arrangements to attend tho gas meeting Saturday night—that is if you have business interests horo and aro interested in seeing Crawfordsvillo prosper.

TXIE Republican Stato convention will bo hold Wednesday, September 10,
