MOUNT'S NOMINATION.
Congressman Oheadlo Congratulates the Hspablicaus of the Eighth District. CongresBman Cheadlo, of tbo Ninth District, lias sent the Terro Hnuto Express the following letter which explains itself:
WASHINGTON, D. 0., August 4th, 1890.—Sin: "1 want to congratulate the Republicans of tho Eighth district upon their good fortnno in hav'ng James A. Mouut a private soldier in the Into war, and a practical farmer, who by dint of his own exertions lias made
sone
of the
finest farms in the state, as their candidate for Congress this year. To my comrades in Vigo, Clay, Sullivan, Parke, and Vermillion I want to say, that 1 kuow that Comrade Mount is your steadfast friend, that he will demand of the government that it keep every promise made to you and me when we we enlisted and risked life itself that this government of, for and by, the people might not perish. I have known him for years and can say that he will be as faithful to your interests now as he was when he fought under Wilder and White from 1862 to the end of the war." He is a life time Republican and believes protecting every interest of every section of the Union. He will not favor class legislation in the interest of any section. He is thoroughly posted on the questions which are now pressing to the front in this industrial age and demand a practical solution. He represents the wealth producers. He is an honest, man. He will work at legislation as he has upon the farm, with all his might, directed by intelligence and an abiding faith in the principles of the party of progress, and I trust, that with the united support of our party that he may be eleetcd. This is as little as a member of the Seventyfirst regiment can afford to say of one of the best soldiers of that justly famous Seventy-second regiment of Indiana volunteers. J. B. CHEADLE.

BATTLE GE0IJND.
Grand Army Day Yesterday - A Charming Resort. The cottagers and visitors at the Battle Ground resort are in one continal round of intellectual and physical enjoyment. The grounds are most charmingly located in the midst of a beautiful grove of native and transplanted trees, and richly carpeted with blue grass. Art and nature have combined to make it a most attractive spot where once a year for two weeks the busy cares of life may be thrown aside, and where friend can hold fellowship with friend. The literary programme this year has been a "feast of fat things, wine on the ltas well refined." Among those who have contributed mental pabulum are Prof. J. M. Coulter, Dr. Robert Nourse and John Clark Ridpath. Yesterday was Grand Army Day. A large number of veterans were on the grounds, drawn thither to hear the eloquent and patriotic Gen. W. H. Gibson, of Tiffin, Ohio. The old General is a "spell binder" and for two hours he held his audience, alternating between tears and laughter. Everybody felt it was good to be there. In the afternoon Governor Hovey delivered a lengthy address on "Pensions and Pension Laws." He was followed by Col.
N. Walker in a most eloquent talk on the "Grand Army of the Republic." Three minute speeches were made by Judge Dan Waugh, Col. W. C. Wilson and Rev. W. P. McKinsey. In the evening the audience was entertained by John Clark Ridpath in a most scholarly and able address on the "CitizenSoldiery." To-day is Farmers' Day and Hon. James A. Mount will speak on "The Farmer as a Factor in the Government. This week closes the Assembly exercises and next week will be devoted exclusively to religious meetings. The Crawfordsville contingent is in the festive swim and all are in the full enjoyment of the environments of this most charming resort. Persons who can take a day off, or for that mattar two days, will be delighted with Battle Ground.
