THE OHIO STATE Official Investigation of Baking Powders,

Marie under the direction of the Legislature by the State Food and Dairy Commissioner, General S. H. Hurst,

Shows the ROYAL to be the purest of all baking powders tested, a cream of tartar powder, containing no unwholesome ingredients, of great leavenI ing power, its strength most perfectly preserved.

All the other baking powders contained impurities, ranging from 10.18 per cent, to 86.23 Per

entire weight. As the best baking powder is that which gives the largest amount of gas and leaves the least impurity in the bread, the Royal is again officially stamped the best in all respects.

VIOLENTLY INSANE.

Silaa Misncr Exhibits a Homicidal Insanity of a Rather Exciting Nature. For a year past Silas Misuor, of S.uartsburg, has ovincod unmistakable indications of a failing miud. It was about this timo that bo received a severe blow on tbo bead lrom a olnb in the hands of WoBloy Foster, colored, of this oity, and it iH to this blow and strong drink that bis friends attribute bis inisfortuuo. For tbo last two weeks his demonstrations have been too violent for comfort and things roaobed a climax yesterday afternoon when lie drovo to this city and took on a big load of budge. Ho drovo his team homo on a run through tbo fearful heat and whou ho arrived there proceeded to paint things luridly. Oursiug and abusing his wife and mother be threatened to take their lives and ilid succeed in demolishing considerable furniture. He then marohed up and down the street of the village iiring his revolver and bellowing for blood. He walked into the store and set lir to the match boxes. By this time the people bad assembled and bis brother-in-law, Hlijab Kennedy, and John Maston fin ally succeeded in overpowering him. after a severe struggle, and tied neok and bools he was brought to town and lodged in jail. This moruu:!'relatives oamo to the oity and swore out insanity papers. Dr. Ensminger, who first examined him declared that he was undoubtedly insane, and a sanity commission oompoBod of 'Squires Itamsey aud Cumberland, and Dr. Oowan, proceeded to tbo jail to bold tboir inquest.

Uoturning they doolared Mr. Misuor to bo in8auo aud tbo papers will bo forwarded to tbo asylum at Indiauapolis at once. If approved by tbo authorities tliero Meisner will be taken o\ or as soon as oxpodiout.

The Water Works Sale.

As was announced in yosterday's JouitNATi bj a special from Indianapolis the Crawfordsville Water Works were sold yesterday for tbo second timo, the first sale having been sot aside by the court. They were sold at Keoeiver's sale by Master in Chancery, W. P. Fishbaok, and wero bid off by Walter Stanton, of the firm of Coflin & Stautou, as trustees for tbo Amorican Loan and Trust company of Tvow York, which is the holder of the greater portion of tbo water works bonds liy the terms of the deoree ordering the sale each bidder was required to dopoBit $10,000 in cash with the Master in Chauncery befo the bids would be oonsiderod. There were two biddors, that of Mr. Stanton and of Mr. llobiuson, who is also the holder of somo of tbo bonds. A. F. Itamsey was present prexmred to place in a bid provided they would likely bo sold low enough, but being salisilod thut the two biddors already in would run the works beyond his figures ho romained out. They wore sta. ted at 875,000, and the bidding was lively until thoy wore knocked off to Walter Stanton at §105,700. At least forty bids woro made before the Master announced "sold," the last bid by llobiuson being$105,650.

North Dakota.

In a conversation with Lieut. Governor Dickey that gentleman iuformod TilR JOUKNAL that tbo crop outlook in North Dakota was more promising than for sovoral years. Tbo failures in wheat for tlio last three or four seasons had retarded the growth of that State wonderfully, but that now with a good crop the Stflto would got a now start and bogin to grow and prosper. Ho thinks ultimately it will bo ouo. of tbo loading States of the Northwest, though at present everybody passes through on thoir way to Montana and Washington, whero the boom is in full bloom.

fiuilfoot Bound Over.

Bullfoot Canoodle arrested somo timo since for the robbing of ono Edward Swank who was drunk at the tune, had Iris preliminary trial beforo Justice Ramsay this afternoon. After hoaring tbo evidenco, which was very damaging to .he defendant and most of the witnesses, tho oourt bound Canoodle over to tho September term with a 8300 bond.

A salesgirlju a Grand street store thought that she had had a gold ring taken from her satchel hanging in the room where all of the women employes kept their wraps and hats. The girl was sure that, she had left the ring tn the satchel, and she felt equally certain that some other girl had taken It out. First one girl was suspected and then another. The thing created deal of hard feeling among the girls, and one of them suggested that the girl who lost the ring go to a fortune teller and In that way ascertain who had taken It. After much debate this course was agreed upon, and the girl whose ring was missing, accompanied by a friend, went ovor to consult a fortune teller on tho west side, who advertises to reveal everything.

The fortune teller got everything she could out of the two girls about the other girls iu the store. Then she reached for her cards, and after cutting, laying and reluying tliem undertook to give a description of tho one who, sho sidd, had taken the ring. The two girls came to the storo, breathless, the next morning, and exclaiming, "I knew It was sho," pounced down on an Innocent looking young wo man. This occasioned a great uproar. The floor walker Interfered, and the affair resulted In the dismissal of three or four girls. The ring was found the same afternoon tn the bureau drawer at homo.
