SOMEWHAT SENSATIONAL.

Such is the Character Which the Lightcap Case Assumes. llio latter purt oi yesterday afternoon and a ]art of this morning was occupied in hearing the evidi uco of the defense iu the trial of Nancy Lightcap. Nancy herself was the chief witness iu her own cause and proved to lie a verv interesting one. She boldly charged that the whole case was trumped up by oilieers Eusminger, Grimes uud Connors, and made some very grave charges against the two latter gentlemen. She aso attacked the character and motive of the chief witnesses ol the prosecution in a very startling manner. Her style upon the witness stand was forward and brazen and she drove her thrusts home in most ama/.oman muuner. She suffered considerably in the cross examination us did several of her witnesses. The best witness she produced was one Guthrie, who swore an alibi. The evidence iu rebuttal on both sides proved the characters of most of the witnesses to be exceedingly bad. Arguments wore mule this morning by attorneys Courtney and Clodfolier for the defense and Anderson for the prosecution. The arguments were all line, ii their way, and enough charaoters destroyed to stock a good sized community. The speeches were finished at noon, and upon the assembly of the court at 1:30, (.lit judge gave his charge, which was a very mild one, to the jury and they retired with the future^career of the airv, fairy, Nancy iu their keeping. Much indignation is expressed by the police nccount of Nancy's grave charge, and they positively deny them all.

of the nest. The weight

of an egg was sutllcient to press down tlie spring and allow the egg to slip out.. The theory of this thoughtful inventor wa* that us soon h* the hen laid an egu it would pr«?ss down the trap door ami di.sap jH-ar. The hen, as is her custom after lay lng au egg, would rise and Cackle, but findlug no egg would conclude that she had made a mistake and would proceed inline diately to lay another, and so nn ad infinitum. On this principle the o\\ ner of a hen would have had a great monopoly.—Cor. New Yorld Herald.
