ought
to know how to
suit nine-tenths of the girls as well. A woman can go to a store —every store in the country that sells corsets at all—ami get Ball's corset, wear it a week or two or three, and then go back and get her money again if she wants it. So can a girl.
A mighty good corset that! The store has primer on Corsets for you.

New Boilers for the College. Janitor Burke left for Dayton, Ohio, this morning to purchase three sixty inch boilers for the college engine house. This purchase is necessitated by the that both the new Library building and south hall will be heated with steam in futnre. The addition of these two buildings almost doubles the heating power required and the boilers now used are too small for the purpose. The old boilers are oiVer.'d for sale.

W. FRED PETTIT.
He Considers the Change of Venue Unfair but is Coufidont of Vindication, South Bend Tribune: Tho oliaugo which has como ovor Y\\ Frod Pettlt since his case was recently veuued by Judge Langdon, of the Tippscauoo county circuit court, from that county to Montgomery county, is quite noticeable. although it may not bo as much so as would bo tho cose with many others in circumstances of 11 similar character. He still occupies tho room in the hospital department of tho county jail. His room is light aud ftiry aud well kept aud calculated as far as possible to lessen tho burden of the hours luring which a prisouer is kept within the bouuds of its mass of brick and iron, even with an accusation hanging over him. as great as the ouo with which Mr. l'ettit is now charged. Ho spends his time now much as I10 has during his past months of incarceration. Ho gets what ho can 111 reading various books, periodicals an newspapers and visit— iug with friends who may como to se6 him. Tho burdensome hours are occasionally beguiled by a game of chess of which Mr. lYttit is a good player. With the majority of. those who visit lnm he is jolly as a mau under like conditions could be, aud chats on ilillerent subjects, touching occasionally on his own great troubles. His clerical appearance is strongly alterod by tho absence of his full, dark aud luxuriant beard, which has succumbed to the keen lge of the barber's razor. To those who were accustomed to seeing Mr. Pettit while he lived hero this oliaugo will not seem so great, as ho often kept his beard entirely 6haved oil". In regard to the Venning of his case he has expressed himself quite freely. Ho coniders that he has been treated in a rather unfair manner in the matter, and that there was 110 small amount of maliciousness accompanying the decision. Ho has always admired Judge Langdon as a precise and strong lawyer, yet he thinks that in veuuing the case the uilgu may have been prejudiced and it has even appeared to Pettit that the court was on several occasious during the recent habeas corpus proceedings vindictive. While he feels that Judge Snyder, of the Montgomery circuit court, will treat him fairly and that a ulliciout number of fair minded men can be secured to givo him an impartial trial, yet he considers that there may be considerable feeling in that county against him. Of his acquittal Pottit appears as confident as from tho (irst. In an interview recently ho said: "My attorneys believe moan innocent man. They have never said so to me, but remarks they have made to other parties have reached my ears, aud they are not working simply on tho evidence in the case, but with their minds aud hearts made up that I am an innocent man".

farmers, Why not Raise More of The aud Increase Your Profits. A conversation with James Walter, of tho firm of Walter Brothers, revealed a few facts which are of interest to the farmers of Montgomery county, but which they do not generally kuow. In the past year the iirm has shipped from Craw fords\ille not loss than a quarter of a million dollars worth of horses. That is an immonso number, but don't think for a minute they wero oil raised in this count}- or even this region. They came from all parts of the State and fiom other States. Itight here is the important part for our farmers. hile this vast number of horses wore not raised here Mr. Walter said they should have been and could hnre been.
Every mnn with eighty acres of land should Ruimally market three or four head of horses. Tho expenses are small compared to tho profits, and thus the loss occasioned by a bad wheat crop could I Hi lightened. This is worth thinking over at least.

Correspondence has been carricd on for sotno little tlmo past, says tho Chicago Times, looking to a regatta, to bo participated in by all tho principal yachts of the lakes, tho central figures in which, however, would bo tho Idlor of Chicago and the Canadian yacht Oriole of Toronto. Tho Chioago gentlemen wanted ono meeting. to be held in the vicinity of Mackinaw, but tho Canadians havo held out for threo meetings—ouo 011 Lako Ontario, ono at Mackinaw, and ono on Lako Erie.

Senator Stanford confidently expects that sho will not only lower this record, hut will eclipse the one made by Maud S.
