"I am simply bored to death," remarked Stanley us sunn as he set foot in the world of civilization. He referred to the lionizing. It is perhaps safe to say, however, th':t lie would be still mure bored if he did not receive it.
President Ii:'.rriso:i was in office a year and nearly two months without sending to eoupress a veto message. His first veto was in the interest of economy, it beintj stamped upon a bill congress h:id passed authoi-lzing Ogden, Utah, to run into debt additionally.
HON. T. L. COUSINS, of Salem, Judge of tho Forty-second Judicial Circuit, hus been declared insane, due ton severe attack of la grippe. He presided over the circuit for thirteen years, aud the term for which he was last elected will not expire until 1890.
It seems as if, after a tough fight, the jwwer of a minority to defeat a measure by refraining from voting is to be broken in lioth houses of congress. Senator .'Sherman has given notice that hereafter, when a legal quorum is present in the senate c.hiimber, he will demand that it be counted n« such by tho presiding officer. whether the members all vote or uot.
The World-Cleveland-Dana three cornered fight, which enlarged into a quadrangular ime, lxxvime correspondingly amusing to the outride word as it spread. The fourth individual to take a hand was the reporter, who did not projiose to be saciificv.-d. In answer to The World's editorial denial of the truthfulness of his report of Mr. Cleveland's remarks he presented an affidavit tliat all he said was true, and a good deal more lesid:.s.

TIRED OF WAR.
A
of Fence Itetwectj Franco
and tho King of Dahomey. I.oxnox, May 10.—The latest advices from Africa represent the King of Paho. tney as very tir"d of his war against the French. Hv had expected to overwhelm the small French garrison on the coast atone blow, and either capture them or drive them into the sea. and. when his troops returned discomiitted from the defense of Kotonou he was so enraged that he promptly beheaded tho General in .command and followed up tho act with a slaughter of several more aj his oflieers next day. This severity, however had a contrary effect to what he expected and many of his troops deserted, some seeking refuge within the French lines. The bombardment of Whydah has added to the disgust of the Daliomans, «ho had beer, accustomed to regard their monarch as invincible and almost divine, and the King is said to be in some fear of an outbreak among his subjects. Tho French will not make peace without vn effort to put a stop to the inhuman sacrifice of human life which r.iv company state ceremonies in Dahomey, and the King will be required to pay an indemnity for the less of life and property he has caused the French.
