1 here are two young men in this city who have roomed together for some lime past, but who n.iw don't speak aa they pass by. There never was any warm friendship between them, their tastes and habits being very dissimilar, but they roomed together for re i*onsof economy. Upon taking the room it was lividedinto two equal portions by drawing a ch:Uk lino across the floor, each agreeing to confine himself to his own half of tho room. They sum got used to this and when, in tiie course of time, tin- chalk mark became obliterated, it was not necessary t. renew it, so accustomed hail they become keeping within their respective lMiiinds.
All went well until one Sunday, when •i visitor called on one of the young men. The other one was out, and the visitor knowing nothing aUiut the division of the room, nea'eii himself in the portion belonging io the absent man. When the latter returned ami found him there lie gruffly ordered him to goto his friend's side of the chamber. Then the f'livs of hatred which had smoldered so long broke out, and a rough-and-tumble tight ensued between the two room mates, with the result that they now occupy separate apartments.—Washington Star.

One of the most beautiful and costh clocks ever made was sent majiy v»iarr. ago by the East India company :u a gift to the Emperor of China. Tho case wad made in the form of a chariot, in which was seated the ligureuf a wofnan, with her right hand resting on the top of a tiny clock, which was placed in the side of the carriage. S mho of the wheeU that moved the clock were concealed tho lx»dv of a bird that had seemingly alighted upon the lady's finger. Over her head was au'uuibrella that concealed a silver bell. This, although it seemed to have no connection with the timepiece, struck the hours, and it could bo mado to repeat by touching a diamond button fixed below the dial of the clock. At the feet of the lady's figure ls a golden dog, aud in front of her were two birds that were apparently flying before the chariot. This exquisite clock, with all its necessary parte, was made of gold, and was most elal»irab'lv ornamented with precious stones,—Jewelers' Circular.
