SAID AT THE OHOROHES.
Tlie Pulpits of Crawfordsviile Were Ably Filled Tusterday. At tho Methodist church yesterday morning a large congregation was in utteuduueo. The pastor's subject was
Personal Faith," the text being Mutthow xvi ,10, "Hut whom say ye that I mi!" Those words were addressed by Jesus to his disciples to test their per Eonal faith. It is not onough that men should accept tho truths of Christianity in the abstract, but they must accept tliem personally, each for himsolf. At the closo of the services ono little boy united with the church.
At tho First Raptist church tho congregations were very large. The evening congregation tilling tho house to overflowing. Rev. Fuson took as his text for the morning sermon tho words,
They are under sin," Horn., 3:9. Tho sermon was a concise statement of the seripturo teaching that all are under sun, first, by nature second, from choice aud third, that all have incurred the terrible guilt of sin from which noue can deliver but Christ only. Iu the o- oniug the discourse was founded upon the words, "If any man will not ike up his cross and follow after mo, he is not worthy of mo."—Matt., 10:38. The sermon was a very clear ond forcible presentation of what is required to make one worthy of companionship of Christ. At the close of the sermou two wore b.iptized.
Dr. W. P. mo is a stranger liore no longer. He has appeared before Crawfordsville congregations so often that is now considered an old friend. Two large crowds heurd him yesterday morning and evening. In the morning lie took as his text John, xiv, 27. Christ came as a King but in lowly garb and station. This is explained by tho existence of two realms, tho animal and tho spiritual, Christ being the ruler of tho hitter. Tlu two are not wholly disconnected, the former being introductory to tho latter. Tho door between tho two is self denial, which must al ways be used by those who expect to pass from a lower to a higher realm. The man who aspires to bo a great scholar must accomplish his aim by denying himself tlie pleasures of society und other recreations to a great extent. Somo argue that religiou is all right when death comep, but iu this world the really prosperous are those not hampered with Christianity. But such judge by a false standard. Heal prosperity depends upon what a man is and has within himself. Here Dr, Kane iu troducod a beautiful rhetorical figure, comparing tho various faculties of man's uaturo to the rooms in a house.
COLORED NOTES,
Nsthiiii Davis, of Hoopstou, 111., is ^n the city visiting friends. Mrs. Clara Thompson is home from Kentucky visiting her parents.

Yesterday was Missionary diy at tho A. M. E. church and was also Rally lay. Tho day was observed fully in tlie forenoon. Elder Coleiuan delivered able discorsoon "Belief." The Sun lay school collection wns §2.-10. Iu the veiling tho children gave a sacred coueert which was very creditable to both children aud teachers. Tho ladies iu charge of the illy acquitted themselves ith houor aud proved themselves fully capable of tho positions thoy held The day in general was a success, tho total collections for tho day being §35.

A NEW PLAN
HOW YOU CAN GET
A $30 Gold-Filled Watch
With your choice of an Elgin, Waltham, Hampden or Rockfui
Jeweled Movement, or ladies' watch of equal quality, for
The "NKW PLAN" is to get up watch clubs with 43 members each. Each week, on Saturday evening, there will be a drawing of one ot the watches, and each member pays $1 per week until he draws a watch, and then his payments cease. In case your name [which is one of the 43 names placed in the box], should be drawn the lirst night, you would get a $3o-watch for $1. If your name did not come oul the first night, and should the second Saturday night, vou would get a $3watch for $2, and so on through the entire series.
Remember, your payments cease after you get your watch, and every member that is drawn out leaves just one less in the box, consequent^ vour chances are just one better the next Saturday night.
