ANANIAS AND SAPPHIRA.

The Famous Olub of this Name Adds Two Honored Names to Its Roll. Tho Ananias and Supphira Natural History Club has secured a couple moro members, which if they keep up their l'ck will add glory and renown to that historic combination of imaginative tad picturesque liars. They are uon professionals, aud were admitted without a dissenting voice, when they lisped out the stories. Buck Brothers, tho strawliug Llonde cop, was the lirst to get in. llu came into tho presouco of tho Hots Prevaricator a few evenings sinea at told of how upon a certain time ho hid started out with a very small hook and l.ue to capture a few minnows iu one ot the spring branches which feed Kcck Jtiver. Ho Imdgood success but liually felt a heavy pull. He gave it a jerk aud landed a biioB, which weighed when dressed '21 pounds. "Xo\v,"ku said, "the myst'iry is why my lino did not break how tho great lish came to bo where he was." No one smiled, no one doubted. The Boss Prevaricator at a sign from ins brethren stepped foward aud placed the badge of the brotherhood (a brass )yrej upon Buck's breast aud hailed him .is Munchausen Professor of the

Piscatorial Art. 1'red Jiundel was tho next to kuouk for admission, aud ho knocked not in vain. Prod, and Kaiser, his dog, had been hunting a few days ago, aud it be curnu necessary for them to cross the creek where tho current was quite swift. Fred passed in sufcty, his gigantic form squelching all aspirations of the current to toss him about but Kaiser was not ao fortunate. Tho curreut got him aud swept him down toward a pile of drift wood. Fred could not rescue liim, and ho was carried under, his master sup posed, to death. With what joy it was lie saw Kaiser appear after a time on the opposite side of tho drift, and bearing in his jaws the flopping body of a bass which weighed six pounds no smiles no one doubts, aud again the lyro of brass was pinned on aud Fred was escorted to tho chair of the D. Willis Cox, Professorship of Dogs aud Fishes a position which ho will grace with honor t^ himself aud the great elubof which he is so worthy a member.

The Natural Gas Ordinance. W. J. Craig uiul A. W. Hutch cniuo over from LBdinnapolis this afternoon iiud will bo present tit tlio special mooting of tho City Council called to consider the ordinance granting a franchise to the People's Natural Gas Company to pipo the streets and alleys. An agreement has been reached between the Council and tho Company on all the provisions of the ordinance except as to rates, aud it is thought that botli parties will "get together" ou this provision touight. When an agreement is reached the ordinance will be passed with as little delay as possible. There should be a thorough understanding between tho Company and tho people, and tho time to reach this uuderstamliug is now before work bogius. It will bo morn agreeable to both parties hereafter. Tho ueople of Crawfordsville don't expect to get rates ejual with tho consumers in gas towns. It stands to reason that it ,) oanuot bo furnished at auythiug like il tho ratea where the valuable fluid is found at their doors, or even where it is -uped fl shorter distance. hat tho people demand is that will know beforo tho
