Laundry Office Bsmoved.

McCampbell Brothers have removed their laundry office from Mbssler's to Con Cunningham's store. They will continue to do the best work on linen and will hereafter make a specialty of lace curtains.

Public Beception To-Night, The King's Daughters will hold a public reception this evening in their room in the filler block. It will be a good opportunity to booome acquainted with the work and plans of the sooiety— and also the young ladies.

Christian Church Meetings. The Christian Church is holding a series of meetings this week. The meeting Inst night was well attended and considerable interest was manifested. Elder Lane preached a most excellent sermon, and three persons united with the church. Services will be held to-night and every evening this week.

Defending Boone County.

The Lebanon Pioneer oomes to the defense of Boone county in the following words: "The effort to seoure Ed Corey's pardon does not meet the approval of the order-loving people of this coun ty, and the Pioneer does not be lieve Gov. Hovey will grant the prayer of tLe petitioners. Corey got off with vory light punishment and he should be held until his ninety days are up. The citizens of Boone county do not countenance prize fighting and the participants in this disgraceful affair should 1x3 made an example of. The authorities deserve much credit for their efforts to capture the gang and bring them to justice. Now lot the law have its course."

The Poor Asylum and Orphan's Home. The Board of Commissioners yesterday visited the Poor Asylum and found everything in good shape. One feature of the management only was a subject of criticism and that was that the order of the Board concerning the ventilation of tho rooms occupied by the male inmates and preventing their oocupancy during the day has not been strictly carried out. This is partly excusable on the grounds that tho inmates had no general Bitting room. They have been compelled to sit on tho benches in the hall which were not tho most inviting. Iho Board decided to convert the southeast room up stairs into a general sitting room, and to supply it with table and ohairs, and make it every way oomfortablo and desirable for the inmates during the day. When this is done tho Superintendent will have little trouble in enforcing tho rules. The Board also visited the Orphan's Home and wore highly pleased with the managomunt aud tno general arrangement of tho institution.

SIGNS OF PROSPERITY.

THE PBOSPEOT BFFOBE U8 A HEALTHY ONE.

A General Feeling Among Business Men That a Steady, Substantial Boom Is Ooming.

The B. 11. A. Directors met lastevening at the oflioe of Ramsay & Sohultz and ratified most heartily the action of the Committee on public entertainment in regard to the horse show and gave it full power to go ahead and make other arrangements.

The Business Men's Association has a membership of something over two hundred. It is not oonfined to resident^ of Crawfordsville, but to citizens of the entire county of Montgomery. And very prop«rly so for the interests of both are as should be identical. Therefore let every man who has money invested and expects to reap his profits from this county beoome a member of the association and develop by co-oper-ation our natural and in many respeots unexcelled advantages.

Fred Smith will shortly build a handsome frame residence in that blooming suburb of Englewood. It will cost about §2,500 and there will be a barn. E. C. Griffith & Son are the contractors.

Tho committee who has the horse show in oharge is enthusiastio over the prospects for its success. Just as soon as they learn how much money a^n be raised they will announce the premium list. The committee on transportation will secured reduced rates on all roads and the merchants may expect crowded streets for two days.

Just on the quiet we would say also that if the horse show pans out well it is the intention to have June races at the fair ground. This will reoeive the unqualified endorsement and encouragement of every business mnn

The laboring man of Crawfordsville will not have to complain of laok of work this season. In the first plaoe we oan count almost certainly on the natural gas pipe line being put in wliioh will furnish labor for those who want it for several months. There is the new 830,000 library building at the oollege. It is estimated that about 60 per cent, of the cost of a building is for labor so from that souroe alone there will go inio the pookets of the wage worker $18,-

Then remember that the Consolidated Tank Line has begun the erection of buildings to cost $6,000. Besides the contractors are all feeling that the building prospect is better this year than for several season*.

Crawfordsville railway servioo now cannot be excelled. Three great companies have lines through here, the Vandalia, the Big FourandthaPenusyl-

SAFE BLOWERS.

T''?y Get in Their Work on the Darlington Post Office. The safe of F. W. Campbell at the post office was blown open last night. Nothing of any value was found except a few coppers aside from P. O. blanks and papers of no value to any on* except the postmaster. They did their work well, showing themselves to bo old hands at the business. Their tools were left lying in the room and were taken from a blacksmith shop there. The report awakened several persons, but on looking out everything was quiet and nothing more was thought of it. Their sole object was money, as they were in possession of a full line of groceries, cigars and tobacco, and so far as Mr. Campbell could judge not a thing was disturbed aside from tho safe.

THE GRAND ARM! MEETING AT QU1NCY

Colonel lUtin Sure to Be Chosen Corn* manUer— Speech** by General-Alger •utl Governor Fifer—Close of the vr Indiana Knoampment.

1I.MXOI8 VKTEUAN9.

QUISCY, 111., March 13.—The State •noampment of the G. A. R. began in this city yesterday morning at the opera-house. Only preliminary business v?° transacted. Governor Flfer and stall, Commander-in-Chief Russel A. Alger and staff, and General Weissart, commander of tho department of Wisconsin, are ainong tho distinguished attendants.

A resolution to cloct tho delegates by Congressional-district nominations, adopted at the last encampment, .was Indorsed after spirited flght and only by a small majority. The resolution, however, a at a modified. Originally it moroly proposed to olect tho officers of tho encampment and thir-ty-two delegates on COMMANDER MARTIN nominations from the Congressional districts. Adopted, it provided for the ohotco of one delegate from each distriot—twenty in all—and twelve from the State at large, and that the officers be chosen in the old way—a free-for-all on nominations.

General Alger, Governor Fifer, Colonel Weissert, of Wisconsin, and others spoke briefly at encampment hall. The General talked upon the pension question, and told about his work to secure legislation on the subject and the efforts he had made before the pension oommittees of the Senate and House to obtain proper recognition of the veteran. He reluctantly admitted, however, that, whilo he favored it, there was no hope for the service-pension bill, and that tho only measure to be hoped for was tho disability bill. Governor Fifer followed in tho vein suggested by Governor Algor.

A oonsidorable portion of the day was consumed in hearing the reports of officers and committees, and the delegation from he W a

The headquarters of the department will remain at Chicago. There is lively struggle on the subject of the location of tbc next encampment. Springfield, Rockford, Peoria and Decatur all want it, and the probabilities are that their prospects are in the order in which the cities are named.

It is highly probable that the committee on resolutions will bring in a report in favor of the dependent pension bill and ignore the service ponsion bill. Such at least seems to be the sentiment to-night. General Martin, in h!s annual report, favored both bills, while Senior Vice-Commander Dcitrich took strong grounds in favor of the dependent ponsion hill.

The camp-fire at night was a monster meeting. Speeches were made by General Alger, Governor Fifer and others. Music, recitations, otc., ocoupied the time, the meeting continuing until late hour.

WITH THE INDIANA VETERANS. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., March 13.—The State Grand Army of the Republic enoampment closed Wednesday evening. Resolutions were adopted demanding the immediate passage of the servicepension bill and the repeal of the limitation f'auafl of the urtaragaa bill.

On the 27th of February, 1883,1 was taken with a violent pain in the regins of the kidneys. I suffered suoh agony that I oould hardly stand up. As soon as possible I applied two Alloook's Porous Plasters, one over each kidney, and laid down. In an hour, to my surprise and delight, the painhad vanished and I was well. I wore the plasters for a day or two as a precaution, and then removed them. I have been using AH. cook's Porous Plasters in my family for thelast ten years, and have always found them quickest and beat external remedy for colds, strains and rheumatio alfbotiona. From my experience I believe they are the best plasters in the world."
