CRAZED BY POISON.

Two Men Mistake Belladonna For Whisky and Are Having Maniacs. Harry Hipes and James Patton, of Mace, are raving crazy and suffering intense agony caused by taking lielladonna in place of whisky. Patton will probably recover but Hipes' oondition very serious and the hopes for his roooveiy are small. It happened on Saturday when the two men were moving tho household goods of Dr. T. P. Sellar at Mace. About 11 o'clock in tho morning they discovered a small 4 ounco vial containing what appeared to be good whisky and being hard at work they thought to refresh themsolvos by imbibing. Both took a swig bl1 afterwards Hipes took a second so that in all they drank about half the bottlefull. Nothing was notioed out of tho way until tho middle of the afternoon when tho men began to act as if under the influence of liquor. Even that attraoted no particular attention but along toward evening when their actions grew stranger instead of more rational as is usual after a spree. Dr. Sellar began an investigation. He suspected from their conduct that they had taken belladouna and upon looking at his belladonna bottle found that suoh was indeed the oase. All possible measures for thoir relief were taken but without muoh avail. They continued to grow worse until they became perfectly orazy, at tho same tune suffering the most intense pains. Hipes is a man 55 years old and Patton is 32. —Since one 1 o'clock this morning the two men have been improving, and jt is now thought they will recover.

Capt. Fred D. Huestis's Railroad. Capt. Fred D. Huestis is the President of the Tacoma, Olympia, & Paoilio Railroad. The line will be built by a company of which the incorporators aro W. H. Calkins, of Tacoma, A. M. Cannon and H. A. Clark, of Spokane, N. H. Owing, of fcOlympia, aud F. D. Huestis, of Indiana. The Tacoma Globe, speaking of the road and its incorporators, says:

Tho rood will leave tho Northern Paoifio at a point as near as possible to Tacoma, and will go by the way of Olympia to Gray's Harbor on tho south side, and ultimately to Shoalwater bay and the Columbia river. It is expected that the road will be completed to Grays Harbor. This line will open up a now oountry which will thus be mad direotly tributary to Tacoma, and will oonaeot this city with the mouth of tho Columbia, giving a direct rail connection "with the East for the commerce anu passenger travel from the Pacifio ocean, whioh naturally comes to the north of the big river. Tho gentlemen mentioned as the incorporators are all well known to this State, and their names area guarantee that the road is as good as an accomplished foot. Judge Calkinc, of this city, is known as an earnest and active man in anything to which he gives his attention. Mr. Cannon is a wealthy banker of Spokane Falls, and Mr. Clark enjoys an enviable reputation as an enterprising business man of the same city. Col. O wings, of Olympia, will be a tower of strength in the company, and Col. Huestis, who has spent a lifetime in tho successful building of railrouds, will push the enterprise with an energy that will astonish even the pushing people of this rushing region.

Decree in the Orawfordsville Oase. A final decree from Judge Gresham, in tho suit of the Amorican Loan and Trust Company against the Orawfordsville Wuter Works Company, was filed in the United States Court to-day. It directs Mr. Fisliback to sell the property for the benefit of creditors, unless SI74,000 owed the complainants is paid within ten days.—Indianapolis News of Saturday.

It will thus be seen that if the oity of Crawfordsvillo enters the field as a competitive bidder for the works she must ut least bid $174,000, or $24,000 more than THE JOUHSAI. statod on Saturday* which only adds to the absurdity for even tho city to think about bucking against the Amorican Loan and Trust Company as represented by Coffin & Stanton. THE JOUHNAL has no objoctious to tho city owniug the works bnt tho possibility of owning them is among the lost opportunities. The lost opportunity was in not building them originally. And tho lost opportunity cannot bo regained until at the end of ten years, when under tho ordinance tho oity has the option to buy them at a fair cash valuation.

MON'TIIKAI., Can., March 10.—Mrs. Onosime Coloretto, tho wife of a wealthy Canadian farmer, and her seven Children wero burned to death Sunday in their homo near Cote St. Michael, five miles from this city. Tho family lived in a largo stono house. At an early hour Sunday morning the building took firo, and before assistance could bo given it was burned to the ground. Coloretto had loft the houso to attond to his work about the farm, and on returning found the placo in flames. He triod to rescue his family, but was overcomo by his horror and fainted. IIo was terribly burned aud may die of his Injuries. The fire Is supposed to have been causod by tho oxploslon of a can of kerosene oil.

As soon as Coloretto saw tho flames he rushed toward tho houso. At the door ho was mot by a burst of flames which sot fire to his scarf, and his hands, neck and whiskers woro badly soorchod beforo ho could tear it off. Then ho ran to tho rear. Only smoke was coming out of this door, and Into It Colerotto dashed. Ho got as far as tho sleeping apartment, but here was a solid wall of flame. Tho floor was burning beneath his feet, tho celling was burning ovor his hoad and the four walls of the room in which lie was woro burning fiercely. To got to tho stairway leading to tho uppor floor was utterly impossible unloss ho dashed into tho seething caldron of firo wherein he had last seen his wife. IIo could see the bed, but it was a mass of flames and empty, lie felt himself boing overcomo by the smoke and heat, and, seeming to go mad, as he now oxplalns It, and not knowing what he did hemado a rush for the door through which ho had entered. It was afire, but Coleretto got through and out in the air. All his clothes wore burned and ho sank to the ground.

The neighbors had now arrived and while somo of them dragged Colerette out of tho reach of the tongues of firo and extinguished tho flamos which had caught his clotbos others ran for remedies. Ho was conveyed to a neighbor's house and medical aid was summoned, but he Is not expected to live.

The soarch for the bodies of tho cremated persons had just begun when two bodies, charred beyond all recognition, but evidently those of tho 13-year-old girl and one of the boys, wore found alongside of the foundation, outside of where tho wall had been. They had probably fallen out of tho upper windows while the flames and smoke from below hid them from the lookers-on, and being helpless on the ground they bad roasted to death outside the house. Later on the trunk of Mrs. Colerotte was found. The arms and lags were entirely burnod off. About 2 p. m. tho searchers found a tiny log, or the bones of one, with the flesh burned off. That was all that remained of eight persons. Mrs. Colerette was 48 years old. Tho ohildren burned were four girls and three boys.
