Fettit Granted a Continuance. Lafayette Call Judge Langdon this afternoon rendered his decision in the application of W. F. Fettit for a continuance of his case until next term. He first reviewed the reasons aas'gned for such extensions of time, and decided that under the circumstances such continuance should be granted until the next term of court, and so ordered. Prosecutor Haywood theroupon asked a continuance of tho case of Mrs. 'Whitehead, giving AS ono reason that witnesses had boon subpemed from abroad in both cases, and it would be a hard, ship for them to make two visits to the city. To this Pottit's attorneys objected. Tho Judge ruled the Prosecutor to make a written statement of his reasons which ho will present to-morrow or next day.

The Lost One Pound.
For the past two weeks Silas Jonee has been in mourning.. His emblem of Bourbonism had disappeared, and oould no where be found. No more he sprang upon the fenoe as the early dawn made visible the eastern hills and with hit olariou voice screamed out "Cleveland and Reform" awakening his own from the dreams of that time when the oook'a horn shall drown with its shrill notes the eagle's wild scream. The rooster was gone. After a week's mourning, however, he returned like the prodigal son, to roam no more, his sliing feathera were sticky with the gore of conflict. His eyes were swollen shut and his oomb which hung so jauntily over his left optic was in ruins and hung in ribbons. He had been it seemed, out near Shannondale and had fought full 27 rounds, London prize ring rules, with some other poultry yard oliampion with disastrous results. Suoh dissipation .would never do in this case, Silas must Lave either a staid and steady rooster or no rooster at all. So on Sunday his head v.as brought to the block, and his flesh was given to whet the teeth of his disgusted master.
MORAL—Never,
little boys, engage in
the dissipation of the prize ring. The red eyed law will lay its hands upon you, and the jail, not the pot, will be your doom. Remember Jones' rooster.
A Telegram Direot to New York, The longest telegraph wire ever used from Crawfordsville was used Saturday night in sending the account of Wabash college celebration to the New York World. Usually in suoh cases the message is transferred at Indianapolis and other points but for the sake of a test the wires between here and New York, a distance of 700 miles, were all connected as one, and George White interchanged pleasantries with the operator in the New York World office without any difficulty and also sent 3,000 words. George, as manager of the Western Union at this point, is becoming very popular and does a constantly increasing business. He requires two messengers, W. S. Coons and Ora Hartley. There are four instruments in the office, one for general commercial bnsiness which is connected with Indianapolis, from which point messagers are sent in any direction, one for business between Lafayette and Louisville, one between Peoria and Indianapolis and one between South Bend and Torre Haute.
