Withdraws From the Race. W. F. Sliarpe, of this city, has just been appointed aruliiteot of the new Christian church to be erected at Ware land. The church is to be of brick with slate roof, bowled floor, semicircular seats, corrugated iron ceiling, ^cathedral glass, Sunday school room, idies'parlor, baptistry, robing rooms, and the whole heated by furnace. The church is to cost about $4,500. This and two other ohurohee which Mr,
Sharpe now has a good ohanoe of ouring in other States will prevent him from mailing a canvass for Oounty Surveyor and he withdraws from the raoe, but will continue to work for the success of the ticket nominated.
"The Bemedy for the Evils of the Honey Power." Dr. L. B. Woolfolk delivered the last lecture in the series, which he has been delivering, at the Baptist church last evening, his subject being the "Remedy for the Evils of the Money Power," the London Money Power being the subject of the lecture on Tuesday evening. The speaker enumerated many .. things that must be done, among them was the overthrow of our false industrial system, that is to say that the people should not divide off into classes, suoh as the laboring olass, the farming class, tho manufacturing class and the mercantile class. Tho line must be drawn higher up and include all the above classes on one side and on the other side foreign capital, which in various disguises is encroaching upon every independent business in the United States.
The grange movement amoug farmers and labor unions, among the industrial olussea ho thought wero mistaken and would result in disastrous failures to remedy the evils. An organization of one class, farmers, or labor, or merchants, is merely a waste of time, His idea was that our whole people must enter into an organized "Union" in a grand general purpose and "bind the' dragon." Trusts must be put down, the people should own tho railroads, they should own tho (louring mills, and packing houses and tanneries, and foundries and woolen factories, and all Wnd of manufacturing industries and these should all be patronized in preference to those owned by foreign capital. Business stagnation would cease at once and tho towns would ring with the hum of industry. In other words he believed in building up homo industries, to do whioh it is necessary to shut out the products of foreign industry by tariff protection.

A
COMPROMISE AT LAST EFFECTED.
By Its Terms the Democrats Get trie Speaker and the Republicans the Choice of Five Committees—
Ofllcers Chosen.
BOIES TO UK INAUGURATED KE11.
37.
Des Moines, la., Feb. 20.—Wednesday the Iowa House of Representatives succeeded in breaking the dead-lock with which they have been wrestling for over flvo wooks. At night at 7:80 John T. Hamilton (Dem.), from Linn County, was elected speaker. By the terms of compromise, which have been accepted the Democrat!) have tho speaker and the Republicans the important chairmanships of oommittees while the minor offices are divided as equally as possible among both parties. Following are the aocepted terms: 1. Tho Democrats to have the speaker and seoond assistant clerk. 5. The Republicans to have the speaker pro tem., chief clerk, first assistant clcrk, engrossing clerk, enrolling clerk, file clerk, bill clerk, assistant postmistress, sergeant-at-arms, doorkeeper, six assistant door-keepers and two
Janitors. 8. Each side to have one paper-folder and (our paces.' 4. Republicans to have the first choice ol standing committees and to choose five committees, the Democrats to have second choice and to choose one committee, the remaining oommittees to be chosen alternately, the Republicans having first, choice the parties choosing said committees to haven majority of one upon eBch committee, including the chairman, either party to have the right to name the chairman and membership of all committees ohosen by It. 6. The Investigating and special committees to be equally divided unlesd otherwise agreed. & The same oommittees to have clerks as in the Twenty-sooond General Assembly. 7. The division of the committees to be made by a committee composed of seven members of eooh party to be chosen by the respective cauouses.
The roll was then called and the following officers were elected as the permanent officers of the House:
Speaker,
J.
Sbawbiohi.
T. Hamilton (Dem.) Chief Clerk,
H. S. Wilcox (Rep.) First Assistant Clerk, D. J.
Shclton (Rep.) Second Assistant Clerk, \V. H. Robb (Union Labor-Dcm.) Engrossing Oierk, Miss Olive Conger (Rep.) Enrolling Clerk, Miss Lucy Parsons (Rep.) Sergeaut-ut-Arms, S. T. Zenor (Rep.) Bill Clerk, Mlsi Klttlo Jordan (Rep.) Assistant Postmistress, Miss Grace L. Martin (Rep.) File Clcrk, E. E. Stover (Rep.) Doorkeeper, D. O. Sheldon (Hep.).
When the roll was called for election of permanent speaker the Republicans led off, all voting for Mr. Hamilton. Applause broko forth from the floor and gallery, and as Mr. Wilson, the Republican candidate, cost his vote for his Democratic rival the obeers were deafening. Representatives Johnston, of Dubuque, and Cbantroy, of Mills County, the only two members of the present House who wore members in the dead-lock of 1874, were appointed a committee to esoort the speaker-elect to the chair. When Mr. Hamilton had taken the oath ho addressed the House.
After transacting tho necessary routine business incidental to organization the following gentleinon wero appointed to represent the House on the committee on inauguration: Ilepwell, Clarke, Townsend, Muth and McFarland. The House then adjourned until 10:80 today.
During tho ovening the following gentlemen wore selected by the two parties as a committeo to divide the standing committees in accordance with agreement: Messrs. Wilson, Luke and Head, Republicans, and Messrs. Holbrook, Dayton and Clarke, Democrats. This committeo will moet to-day and make the division.
Silas Wilson, the Republican candidate for the speakership, will bo speaker pro tem. The joint convention to oanvass tho vote on Governor and Lieu-tenant-Governor will bo hold at 3:30 this afternoon. It is agreod that tho Inauguration of Govornor Roles will take place next Thursday.
Tho break In the dead-lock Is satisfactory to all except the ultra-Domo-orats. Tho leading Domocratic paper of the State protested loudly against the acceptance of tho speakership under the restrictions placed upon it The Republicans got all tho minor offices and all tho Important committees, and will have almost tho entlro shaping of legislation.
Auditor Lyons sent another lotter to tho House In which he says that, with all due deference to tho Attorney-Gen-eral, he can not Issue warrants for Legislative expenses without consulting other legal authorities. Tho difficulty is, howover, swept out of existence by the dissolution of the dead-lock.
In the Senate Senator Harsh introduced a concurrent resolution providing
for a joint committee consisting of three prevents them. members from each body to investigate tho subject of trusts ?nd combines, said oommittee to sit anywhere in the State
