IN EASE AND LUXURY. *n

The Observed of All Observers—How Oorey Lives in Lebanon. Oliarley Corey was in Lebanon yesterday tho guest of his distinguished son, Ed Corey. Mr. Corey, sr., gracefully submitted to an interview this morning on the corner of Wal lut and Jefferson streets. "How did you liud Ed?" "The best in tho world. I wont there as you know for the purpose of gettin? him out of serving his sentence, and 1 think I will succeed. It is my opinion that he will bo released by Saturday night. A petition is in circulation there and being signed by all the business men, the Sheriff, the Marshal, the Proseauting Attorney, and in fact all of the officers of the law, excepting tlis Judge. A petition will also bo started uinoun' his friends here." •'What kind of a time did you have." "Well, I gave Sheriff Edwarils a talk as soon as I got there and tho result was that Ed and myself, and also Friday Clark, went out of jail and ate a good square meal at one of tho leading hotels. All afternoon wo paraded tlw streets and I think I must have met 500 men. We met Marshal Odon, who owns two saloons in Lebanon and he set 'em up, of course. Everybody treated us square." "Is Ed koepiug up his practice?" "Oyes. He has his gloves and ba and practices every day. Occasionally he and Friday give little exhibitions, hear that a number of Ed's friendB are getting a purse for him to give exhibitions in Lafayette and other places.

INCANDESCENT LIGHT

We Will Have it Before the Leaves Begin to Turn. A rumor that tlio Crawfordsville Gas and Electric Light Company would put in an incandescent light plaut and furnish this beautiful illumination to our citizens was easily traced dowu aid proven to be a fact. P. C. Somervill secretary of tho company, stated that they had been considering tho matter for some time and had decided that ii oundescent lights would have to come. Tho only question now is what kind of a dynamo to buy and how lareie a one.

As near as they know now the dynamo will be strong enough to furnish 650 lights and will cost §4,000. Tho other expanses, suoh as poles, wires and labor will bring total expense to about 80,000. It will bo put in early this unimer. The rates to consumers will likely bo suoh that private families who uso great deal of gas can put in the incandescent lamps at a not much greater expanse.

Maurice Thompson's Opinion. Maurice Thompson's opinion of "Undo Tom's Cabin" was expressed in a recent lecture of his at Monteaglo, Tenn., on "GeniuB in Women." He said: "There is not an intelligent soul in tho South to-day that does not feel the singular power of womanly senti ment and imagination in 'Uncle Tom's Cabin,' no matter what may be the prejudice against the book. I say to you that no man could have written that romance. It was the appeal of womup to man, and what an appeal The book was not true to Southern life it was a romance out of the whole oloth. It showed that Mrs. Stowe did not know Southern society, black or white, but it embodied a woman's articulate cry for tho freedom of a wee, and it startled tho world with its accent, its volume, and its distinct womanly qv ftl ity."

Some "Plouiy" Figures.

The amount of flour sold in this city is something wonderful when ono stops to contemplate the matter. Bluff Mills alone, manufacturers of the oelebratod "Eureka" brand of which John H, Scott is agent in this city, lias sold over 3,000 barrels of that brand. Three thousand barrels of our brand is a great many when it is remembered that there are several hundred different brands in the market. The Eureka is an excellent flour and is sold by all dealers in the city.
