What Does This*Mean?
A protty well founded rumor is in circulation that to-night the City Council will be asked to grant a certain com. pauy tho right to eroct electrio light poles in the streets and alleys of Crawfordsvillo. It is supposed that this company is tho ono whioli will buy the water works at the receiver's sale. Fred W..Giblin.
Fred W. Giblin is the gentleman wlio for tho past two weeks has boen in the employ of THE JOURNAL in the capacity of solicitor. That he is a gentleman, and conducted himself as such, all with whom ho came in contact will testify, although some of our esteemed contemporaries did their best to lower him in the estimation of the publio. He did his work well and thoroughly, as the largo increase in THE JOUHNAL'R subscription list is tho best evidnece. He wont from here to Springfield, III., whero he takes a similar position on the KOWB, for which paper he has before worked.
For Township Trustee.
Durid W. Hartman is anuounced in to-day's JoriiNAL as a candidato for Trustee of Union Township before the Republican convention. Mr. Hartman is a native of this city, having been born just 50 years ago. He was among the lirat to enlist in Compony G., 10th Indiana, and served his country faithfully and well. Ho has boen a ltopublio&n from tho birth of the party. With him Republicanism did not simply mean to go to tho polls and cast his vote, but it meant work, whioli he has always cheer fully done with his sloeves rolled up. Ho is a hard woiking mechanio and possesses all the qualifications to make a good Trustee.

No ohieftain returning from a tour of conquest ever received a more royal welcome. The depot was crowded to the very bridges of the ferries, fully 1.1.00C people having gathered to welcome her. Miss lily was escorted out upon the ferry platform, where three carriages waited her and her escort. Mayor Cleveland, of Jersey City, attempted to address to Miss Illy a formal speeeli of welcome. The crowd was so ovorpoweringly dense, however, that ho was compelled to abandon the effort. Tho cheering was continued with enthusiasm until Miss lily had taken passage for Now York over the Cortland street ferry. On the trip across to New York every tugbor.t and steam craft saluted tho ferryboat. At Cortland street another tremendous crowd had gathered, and Miss lily's way to the World ollico was one of cheers and flowers. It was 4:20 o'clock when Nellie lily alighted in front of the World office, ller first words wore: "I am glad to bo homo again." The crowd in Park row stayed for an hour oheerlng Nellie lily and making other demonstrations, while Miss lily was the conter of an enthusiastic welcoming party of old friends in tho office, where she hold a sort of Informal reception.
