Tho twenty-four hours ending r.t noon Thursday showed 207 deaths, against 250 (of tho da.y previous. Of thoseintluenza, complicated with pneumonia, bronchitis and phthisis claimed fourteen victims, and Jo pneumonia sixty-throe succumbed. In almost every case of this latter diseaso the patient had lirst had an attack of tho grip. Tho mortality thus far during the week beginning on Sunday aud ending Thursday at noon Bums up 1,0-10.

BOSTON, Jan. 10.—The mortality of Boston these days is away beyond any thing over known in the history of tho city. Tho death rate for tho week which ended lust Saturday was about double tho ordinary. Sunday of this wook 50 deaths were reported Monday, SO Tuosday, 73, and Wednesday 50, or for throo jays about 70 more deaths than are usual In a week. It is not necessary to say that 75 per r.ont. of these deaths aro oithcr directly or indirectly duo to Iho influenza. Some seventeen of them aro attributed directly to this epidemic. Tho undertakers have tneir hands full and are working days, nights and Sundays to koop up with their orders. Tho hacks and hoarsos used at funerals aro in constant demand. Tho gravo-dig-gers wero nevor so busy. Tho florists' stocks of funeral flowers are deploted. Meanwhile about one In every throo of tho city's -120,000 inhabitants has or has had the disease, and the remainder are tn hourly expectation of being attacked. Children escape easily.

Uoports from all over the Now England States show that the diseaso is making steady progress. In Alhol, Mass., there are 800 cases, loading physicians are ill and several schools aro closed N'atick, 27 per cent, of the population 111 Suleni. :I5 per cent, of school childron suffering Clreat Falls, N. II., 100 peoplo ill Manchester, 5 deaths so far Windsor. Vt., 100 cases Lowell, 800 cases. Dr. Pholan diod at Lowell Tuesday as tlio result of an attack. Domlnick A. Costa, the largest fruit dealer in Plymouth, died Tuesday night of typhoid pneumonia, beginning with influonza. At Nashua thero havo been 2,500 casos, and the number Is increasing. There has been a marked increase in tho death rate throughout tho State. Among the soventeon cases at the navy yard, Portsmouth, aro thoso of Commodore Sheritt and Constructor Hoover.

A Providence, II. I., dispatch to tho Globo says that inside of fivo hours Wednesday twenty-one deaths wore reported thero from grip and pneumonia, and seven deaths at near-by out-of-town places.

CHICAOO, Jan. 10.—At tho health department during the last two days seven doaths from la grippe, or influenza, complicated with other troubles, havo been roportcd. While theso aro tho only deaths attributed to influenza, tho genoral mortality Is abnormally high, and pulmonary diseases liguro conspicuously, as tho records show. Within a month the increase has beon almost 100 per cent. Tho undertakers will bear witness to tho largo increaso in deaths: Somo of them complain that they havo beon obliged to postpono funerals becauso of their inability to secure hoarsos.

INDIANAPOLIS. Ind., Jan. 10. A poll of twonty-flvo of tho leading manufacturing establishments in Indianapolis shows that thore aro over a thousand omployos who aro olT duty on account of tho influenza. Four deaths of aged persons afflicted with the diseaso wero reported Thursday. Physicians and druggists aro kept busy. Tho opidemic is becoming alarming.

ST. LOUIS Jan. 10.—There aro thirty casos of la grippe in the city jail. None of them are sorions. At the Stato penitentiary at Jefferson City, Mo., 100 convicts aro victims of theopidemic. Thero aro no dangerous cases. Thero are ten oflicers of tho prison down with tho epidemic. Tho chief clerk, Mr. Berryinan, Is quite sick.

WAI.I.A WAI.I.A, Wash.. Jan. 10.—It is estimated that 500 persons are down with influenza. Tho military post has nearly 100 cases. No deaths havo occurred. The symptoms aro identical with thoso described in tho dispatches from Europe and tho Hast.

Colonel Hrico was brought to tho caucus by a committee and tho caucus converted itself into a ratification meeting. Mr. Brico, being introduced, spoke brifly, returning his thanks for the honor conferred upon him. Ho was loudly cheered on taking his seat.

The Republican caucus will in nil probability nominate ex-Oovornor Foster.
