.Tamos Trabuo, of Louisville, Ky. , enc week ago flagged a Monon passenger train near this city, because af obstructions on the track. The conductor placed him under arrest, on the theory that he blockaded the track In order to posa as a hero jn saving the train, but after a detention of twenty-four hours, he was released. Trabuo now sues for $10,000 damages for false imprisonment. He belongs to a well known family in Louisville, although he wa3 tramping to Chicago at tie time of his exploit.
Sanitary Policeman Hight is doing some good work in various parts of :the city. Miss Grace Burgoon has gone to Indianapolis to visit her sister Miss Sadie Burgoon. Darwin Woodall has been appointed administrator of the estate of Mrs. Margaret Coffey. Miss Flora Traylor of Jasper, Ind., is the guest of her sister, Mrs. L. M. Grimes.

Of the 2d district was held at Indian Springs, and Judge W". B. Gardiner, of Washington, nominate.:. The place of meeting was the veranda on the north side of the hotel. The convention was callod to order by Hon. J. E. Honlay, chairman of the district, who made one of his happj speeches. W. E. Kenney, of Wort hington, was chosen permanent chairman. The resolutions and rules being adopted, thd counties of tho district were called for nominations. Mr. Huff, of Daviess, presented Hon. W. R. Gardiner. C-tpt. Riley, of Vinconnes, nominated Hon. D. L. Bonner, of Vincertnes. A delegate from Lawrence county an. nouueed the name of Hon. A. M. Hardy. The nomination of Mr. Bonner was seconded by Enoch Fuller of Bloomington. Judge Gardiner received 56 votes. Capt. Riley, on behalf of Mr. Bonner, moved to make the nomination of Mr. Gardiner unanimous, which motion was received with tho greatest enthusiasm. Mr. Bonner, in a short speech, thanked the convention, and said that if all the Republicans of tho 2d d strict would work as hard for the success of W. R, Gardiner tic he, there could scarcely bo a doubt about the election. He closed by saying, "I liave tho pleasure of presenting to you tho Hon. W. R. Gardiner, your candidate for congress, my candidate for congress." Judge Gardiner then made an eloquent speech, which was received with marked enthusiasm. He closed by intro-.
ducing Hon. J. Frank Hanley, of
Lafayette, a candidate for U. S. senauor. There were speeches by gent lemon from various parts of the district until almost the hour for the train to arrive. Judge Gardiner is a well known Republican, a leading attorney and has represented Daviess county in the legislature. He stands ligliit--patty.councils, Is a tine campaigner ar.atBero win no ,. stronger candidate for congress by any party in Indiana this year Frank Bishop, the well known carpenter, has been in failing health for some time, and after becoming much better had a relapse last week. Ho is now at Martinsville.
Dr. VanNuys died at Charlottesville, Va-, oa Monday, August 1st. Ho was for twenty years a professor in Indiana University, and was ;i son-in-law of Gen. Hunter.
