Grant Bailey came up from Bedford on a visit to his mother last week and is quite sick. On Sept. loth the National Encampment of the G. A. R. will meet in Pittsburg, Pa. Mrs. Cal. Worrall and children have been visiting Mrs. WorralFs sister at Spencer. Jim Ben Allison and family have removed from Wichita, Kas., to Worthington, Greene co. Mr. Harry Hays of Greencastle has been the guest of his sister, Mrs. P. K. Buskirk, during the past week. In Gordon's Grove, on Sept. 7th, the surviving members of Co. E, 145th Ind. Vols, will hold their first reunion. The people who attended the Terre Haute races were very much gratified to notice that "gambling was not. permitted. " Eh I The W. R. C. gave a pie supper at the G. A. R. hall last Thursday night that was liberally patronized. The chapel for which a lot was donated to the M.E. church on west 8th street by W. H. Adams, -will not be built this summer. Samuel Dinsmere's daughter, Mrs. Julia Bauer, who has been visiting her parents here, has returned to her home at Momence, Mo. Harry Smith and wife are visiting relations and friends in Lawrence co. In his absence the store will be in charge of Mr. Weidemer of the Trade Palace. W. P. Hacker of Hindostan claims t be the youngest grandfather in the county. Says he he was a grandfather at 35 years. He was but 16 at marriage as also was his wife. The principal address at the dedication of the Hadley Home lor Girhs hist Friday, was delivered by President Swain of I. U. It was one of those practical common sense productions for which that gentleman is establishing an enviable reputation. J. H. Louden and wife are at Waukesha, Wisconsin. Mr. Louden has only recently begun to receive benefit from the air and water and his family wish him to remain for some time longer. Miss Ida returned last week. Reports from all parts of the country and frem men who con duct all branches of business, state that trade is improving quite perceptibly. Stacks of goods are bo depleted that manufacturing must begin. John Nugent, who was given a freight train conductors!) ip on the "Clever Leaf" several weeks ago, has already been promoted to the position of extra passenger train conductor. Nugent is of the material that insures promotion. The work of enlarging the Owensburg tunnel on the narrow guage road has been completed, but the company has decided to defer widening the B. & B. branch until next season. The construction of that new steel bridge over the west fork of White river has also been postponed. Jos. Smallwood by his attorneys,East & Miller, has brought euit against the Central Oolitic Stone Co., placing his damages at $10,000. He was assisting at work at a derrick when .in stepping backward he alleges that he fell over a rock that had been carelessly left there, and that his apine is permanently injured.

The Republican Central Committee, represented bv members from every precinct in the county, met for the first time in their new headquarters last Saturday after noon. Ilarriman, aged eighty years, living near Landersdale, Morgan county, went into a field Sunday morning where there was a vicious bull, which had been dehorned. Mr. Harriman formerly resided in Bloomingtou, and kept a grocery store in the corner now occupied by Wm. Carmichael. POSTPONEMENT.
