THE FARMERS' FRIEND Of Fort Wayne, Ind., Is one of the best paper of its I class in the State, and should be ! taken by every family that resides on a farm. To any of our agricultural friends who pay 1.50 cash in advance subscription to the 4 -Progress," the Farmers' Friend will be sent free for one year. This is in advance, and full 1.50 subscription, remember. The Hadloy Industrial School for Girls, situated near Danville, Hendricks county, will be dedicated on the 19th of this month. Prominent men from differeut parts of the State will be present and make addresses. They include Gov. Matthews, Judge G. W. Grubbs, Pres. Swain and several others. The school has cost, besides the land connected with it, $20,000, and was built by the beneficence of an aged couple of Hendricks county, Mr. and . Mrs. William Hadley, and the State w. a t. u. A stranger, who talked "horse" with the freedom of long acquaintance, dropped into Alexandria, this State, a short while back, and so loudly did he extol the virtues of tha French coach horse, that he had no difficulty in forming a stock company looking to the purchase of a stallion. Twenty-five stockholders subscribed $100 each, some paying cash. Ten days later the stranger returned with a handsome appearing animal on which he collected the money and otes. Soon after his second disappearance the original owner of the animal accidentally turned up and incidentally it leaked out that he had sold the stallion for $500 to the 'promoter" of French coach horses, after which the fellow docked the horses tail and clipped his mane and fetlocks and unloaded him on the stock company for $2,500, making 2,000 by the deal. The stockholders whose notes are still unpaid are now seeking to be released fr jm the liability. The people of Indiana should feel proud that they live in such a State. The annual report of the gas inspector has been filed and it j shows that 300,000,000 are in vested in manufactories in the gas belt. When it is remembered that this amount would not have been invested if natural gas had not been discovered it may be considered niore than remarkable. The gas inspector does not think that consumers will return to coal when gas gives out, but that fuel gas will in time take the place of the natural article. As Old TKick. Three tramps entered the north bound Monon train Tuesday night, walked through the coaches, picked up a valiae belonging to a passenger and disappeared. Search was made for the robbers but no trace of them could be found. A package of letters and a ring, part of iue contents oi me vause. were found on a sidewalk south of the depot.
