The Christian church social was held at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Blakeley, west 6th street, on Friday night. It was largely attended and was a most enjoyablo occasion. Mrs. Hirseb, her daughter Mrs. Mayer and Bert. Hirsch came from Cincinnati to be present Monday at the celebration of the loth anniversary of Moses Kahn and wife's marriage. Mrs. Sherman Botts became quite ill at Chicago last week, and was confined to her bed for several days. She was accompanied by her husband, and they will return as soon as it is thought best for her to take ths risk of travel. A suit from Lawrence county was begun last Saturday: Quack -eubush vs. Dark Hollow stone company. After grinding away till 3 o'clock the case was dismisseel, and it will bo brought up again at the next term. A restaurant and lunch counter has been opened south of the telegraph office at the railroad yards south of town, where belated travelers can get a "quick meal" while engines are being changed. Eilcttsville Citizen: Las Tuesday evening Miss Winnie Sharp and Miss Mary Stimpson were out horseback riding. Miss Sharp was riding John Brown's black pony, which took fright, ran and threw her. The lady was not hurt, but the pony ran into Fred. Matthews' wire fenco and received such injuries as will probably cause its death. The Walnut St hotel peoplo had a wedding Oct. 11th, and the secret has been well kept. The groom was Will ("Ditty") Sanders, who acts in the treble role of porter at the hotel, janitor of the opera house, and manager of the weiner worst establishment on the south side. Stephenson, is quite sick with tvpho-malarial fever. 'There are a largo number of cases of fever of this character in the county at present. Jos. Houston sued Thos. Y. Radciv charging that Rader- in an effort to drive one of Houston's hogs out of his cornfield had killed it. The county was put to about $100 expense for this $5 hog, and a jury brought ill a ver dict for the dofeuse. Mrs. Walter Crutchor of south College Avenue has been entertaining her noices, Miss Isa bella Goring of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Miss Jennie Page of Louis ville. The officers of the agricul tural society have determined to preserve their fine track, and to that end have gone to some ex pense and considerable trouble to cover it with straw to prevent "washing" by the fall and winter rains. Miss Laura Stewart, a daughter of the popular Janitor of Indiana University, was married last week at Indianapolis to Jno. W. Briggs of Grconsburg. Miss Laura was for a time an assistant of Postmaster McPhoeters of this place, and a very attractive and accomplished young lady. Mrs. Jane McAfee, the jcolored woman indicted for murder in the first degree in the killing of Wm. Meadows, will not hare her trial during the present term of circuit court, owing to the extraordinary largo docket of cases. Her trial will not - occur . till December. A ministerial association has beon organized in this city and the first meeting was held -on Monday night a week. For President Eld. VanCleave of the Christian church was chosen, and for Secretary Rev. Cloveger of the Baptist church. While the stone train was doing some switching at Gosport last Wednesday the I. & V. passenger train ran into it.
